Sebastien Ranes has drifted aimlessly since graduating from high school six months ago. Down on his luck, the nineteen-year-old is recovering from pneumonia, working a dead-end job, and living in a shabby makeshift bedroom in the basement of his mother and stepfather’s home. Looking to escape his lousy situation, Sebastien robs a local grocery store and makes off with $4,800 — but not without the store’s security cameras spotting him. Driven to a state of panic, and out of control, Sebastien is hit by a drunk driver. Pulled from the wreckage by a Marine, Sebastien is offered a ride home — and a way out of Alaska. The Marine Corps shows Sebastien another world — of abuse and authority, of war and compassion, of lust and consequences — and by the time he returns home, he’ll be forever changed.

"I really enjoyed reading this follow-up to Greyhound, and hearing what happened next for Sebastian. While flawed, as we all are, he is such a compelling narrator/character. I had never read a book before about someone in the military, and I found that quite interesting as well."

" I gave up on the book after reading just 14%. It wasn't engaging me, and after rereading other reviewers comments there didn't seem to be any hope. What little I read was so unlike Greyhound where I first met this character. Also wish I knew what happened in the years between the two books. "
— Amy, 9/12/2013" Another excellent novel by this author. "
— Guy, 12/22/2012" I flew through this read. Fascinating story. Well wrote. "
