Publisher Description

Get Rich or Die Tryin'

That's what this book is about -- the good times and the bad times. I wrote this book to explain the world I come from. To a lot of people, I may be too young to reflect on life. And they may be right. But I'd be wasting my blessings if I didn't use the attention I'm getting to shed light on the experiences that have caused me to say the things I say and make the kind of music I make. I want to explain my environment to those who don't come any closer to it than the records they buy or the images they see on television. People who want the truth. Even if they can't handle it, they want it. I let you know that I survived nine bullets not to sell records, but because it's the truth. Every time I sit down for an interview, I'm asked, "Well, 50, how did it feel to get shot nine times?" But those stories don't hold the weight of my pain, or the hope of my experience. It just can't. This is what happened when I was trying to get rich before I died in Southside Queens.

So begins From Pieces to Weight: Once Upon a Time in Southside Queens, a violent and introspective memoir that reveals not only 50's story but the story of a generation of youth faced with hard choices and very little options. A tale of sacrifice, transformation and redemption, but it is also one of hope, determination and the power of self. From Pieces to Weight drips with raw insight, street wisdom, and 50's struggle to survive at all costs...and behold the riches of the American Dream.

""From Pieces to Weight" by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is one of the best books i have ever read. I loved the way he was honest about his life before he turned into a famous singer. 50 Cent talks about his experiences in southside queens, a city of murderers and drug slangers. The book, as his autobiogarphy, tells the readers about how he was so poor and treated badly. Until one day everything changed.. Curtis Jackson decided to sell drugs and risk his life. If you really think this book sounds amazing i encourage you to read it."

Quotes

  • “Cool, hard, and vivid, a minor classic of a genre you might call gangster rap noir. No fluff here. 50 Cent tells the story of his life…with a novelist’s economy.”

    — New York Times
  • “A gripping read.”

    — Time Out New York
  • “Has at its core a compelling brutality.”

    — Q (London)
  • “50 Cent is unflinchingly honest…in this raw, literate memoir…Opinionated, unrepentant, and unabashedly self-promoting, [From Pieces to Weight] celebrates the rapper’s peculiar brand of the American Dream.”

" ok so the book is roughly 220 pages, and he doesnt mention anything remotely related to music until around page 150. everything up to that point is purple tops, green tops, work work work, purple tops...good insight into that aspect i suppose but it didnt have the things i love about autobiographies/memoirs. there was very little emotion in there, completely just focused on why he wanted to get money, what he did with it when he got it, etc. in summary i would say its as flat as his music, but that cant be considered a total shock. " I thought 50's book was great. I have to be honest and say that as much as I am a fan of rap I didn't think I'd like his book but I ended up being very impressed. Not only is it written well but he doesn't seem to be glorifying selling drugs. He tells what his life was like before becoming a star and doesn't focus much on what it's been like afterwards but I'm sure that's being saved for another book. :) I'm definitely going to read Death Before Dishonor now. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes 50. "

" I've loved 50 Cent's music since he released Get Rich or Die Tryin so it was very interesting to know what in his life was like before he released the album. I was aware he had been shot 9 times but didn't know the extent of his drug dealing or lifestyle. Very real and very interesting! "
