It's August and the Edinburgh International Book Festival is in full swing. The world of books is focused on Charlotte Square Gardens, so it's a considerable embarrassment when a successful crime writer and key member of the Scottish Parliament is found dead in the author tent. But is it natural causes?
DCC Bob Skinner, on the edge of a career-defining moment, doesn't need this in his life. But the victim's phone was tapped, and a brother officer has a threatening visitor. A second victim begs the question: have the authors become targets themselves?
Skinner is going to have to dig deep to solve it, even as his own world implodes and a famous friendship is shattered for ever...

" it was ok, slow start and got bogged down in politics "
" As much as I love Quintin Jardine's Bob Skinner series, one must ask - how many spies can there be in one city? Other than that, as per normal, the pace is fast, the story tight and the characters real, flawed, and bent. "
" I loved the plot, characters, and location, but Jardine's very wordy style was hard to get used to. I am currently reading the next in the series, the most recent one, I think. I may actually read earlier ones. "
" Skinner is aging none-too-plausibly. Would like to see more of his intended and learn more about the Scottish parliament "
" I found this book really hard to get into, as its not for me! "
" Such hard work to read. Just didn't grab me. "
" Promotion for Bob but he still remains "Hans on", a great read. "
" Great police procedural set in Edinburgh, I enjoy the characters and the almost but not quite complicated plot. "
" Another good read based in Scotland, police, mysteries and murders. "
