" Peters is a great mystery writer. This one was thoughtfully written with a great analysis of the effects of war on violence. Good family interaction. Great characters. I don't know if I will read them all, but it would be interesting to see what she does with the character. "

" This is an EXCELLENTLY written book. I can't STAND the nazi character who later is the murder victim. He's too real and I got pissed of while I was reading. Sometime's a person is too real when you read them. "

" Wanted to be interested in this story of a POW in post-war England, but wasn't. Plot has never been Ellis's strongest suit, and without the historical background and atmosphere of the Brother Cadfael series, the book falls flat. Knew who the murderer was and why halfway through. "

" This one is NOT a Brother Cadfell mystery, but rather a police procedural taking place in coal-mining country shortly after the end of World War II. The whole feel is different than the Cadfell books, which is as it should be. I'm still not sure how well I liked it. "

Ellis Peters (1913–1995) was the pen name of English novelist Edith Pargeter, author of scores of books under her own name. She was a recipient of the Silver Dagger Award and the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award, conferred by the Crime Writers’ Association of Great Britain, as well as the coveted Edgar Award, given by the Mystery Writers of America.
