" This is a very sad book. Just like This Is What I Did, Ellis holds out on the major drama, and just lets things out piece by piece so you slowly find out the terrible secret the narrator is hiding. Her writing is very sparse and it is SO effective. I'm sad because I bought this book from my library book sale and it's an ARC, so it doesn't have any of Mazzy's art in it...so I'm missing on that element of the book. That made me sad. Fantastic read anyway. "
— Jessica, 2/12/2014" I think about this book often. It haunts me. It is beautifully written and holds such emotion in both what is said and what isn't said. The pacing is perfect, the characters are real and vivid, the story is tragic and yet hopeful. I want to write like this! This is one I will be rereading every so often. "
— Shar, 1/26/2014" I love her style of writing. The story was a little strange, but so believable from a child's perspective. I am totally amused by her stories. "
— Lisa, 1/18/2014" Interesting young adult book about grief and difficult things. "
— Andrea, 12/22/2013" 3.5 stars. A heavy MG, readable in one sitting. Main character is quite engaging and the plot and back story unfold smoothly. "
— Jody, 11/13/2013" I really liked the writing and the way the story slowly unwound, but I'm not sure middle schoolers would stick with it long enough to get it. Your mature readers probably would. It's not a very uplifting story....really tragic! "
— Kathy, 12/31/2012" Everything is definitely not fine however this is a very good story about how family members, friends, and neighbors help each other deal with a horrible tragedy. It's real and the author does a good job depicting the characters with all their imperfections and frailties. "
— Lori, 11/10/2012" Ann Dee Ellis is married to one of my best friends from high school. I think she's great, and loved reading her book. "
— Wendi, 10/25/2012" i thought the pictures of the "arts" were unnessary. the author should have used the space to strech the story more. i want to read more ending of the story. "
— ℡☜ÏÄ«ng☞☎, 9/16/2012" one of the quirkiest, saddest, funniest voices I have read in a long, long time. Ramona the Pest meets Sara Zarr. Where did this book come from? It's stuck in my head now. "
— Margaret, 3/22/2012" Quirky and sad book with a hopeful ending. Books and Snacks August 2010 "
— Rebecca, 9/23/2011" The writing wasn't my problem here, I just couldn't take this story. If it wasn't so short I would not have finished it. It made me crazy annoyed. "
— Michelle, 6/10/2011" The story it self wasn't bad but I didn't particularly like the writing format it was kind of lazy if you ask me. There wasn't any real depth to the main character and the ending seemed rushed. It was a quick read but I wouldn't recommend this book. "
— Sapphire, 5/7/2011" little girls should read this. good for 11 and 12 year olds to take the world in gradually "
— Shaima, 4/22/2011" A haunting story about a girl and her mom. I wanted to hurry to the end so I could know they would be okay, but wanted to take my time enjoying the simple and beautiful writing. "
— Shar, 3/24/2011" It was pretty good actually, I thought it was going to be worse but it was actually really good. "
— Sadie, 3/14/2011" This has such a tragic premise. I just couldn't get past that, even though the writing is clean and clever and sometimes funny. "
— Tiffany, 2/3/2011" This was one of the very best books I have ever read. I love how the author can always surprise you in the end. "
— Jordyn, 11/21/2010" i thought the pictures of the "arts" were unnessary. the author should have used the space to strech the story more. i want to read more ending of the story. "
