Emily the Strange: 13 years old. Able to leap tall buildings, probably, if she felt like it. More likely to be napping with her four black cats; or cobbling together a particle accelerator out of lint, lentils, and safety pins; or rocking out on drums/ guitar/saxophone/zither; or painting a swirling feral sewer mural; or forcing someone to say "swirling feral sewer mural" 13 times fast . . . and pointing and laughing.

"This book, given to me as a birthday present, got me out of my reading slump and back on the road to find another good story like it. I enjoyed the mystery of Emily's past throughout the book; it was what kept me turning the pages. I also enjoyed the illustrations; there are not many books out there who can put color on the pages and still manage to have enough room to put an actual plot in their stories. Honestly, I've read this novel twice, and I still love it."

" Loved the pictures and the quirky characters but the story just was going no where. Tried and tried to finish this book hoping that it had a decent ending but couldn't force myself through it when there are so many wonderful books waiting on my bookshelf. "

" There is just someting about this young, rebelious and hands down Strange girl that makes me feel good. Deffinetly a good book for someone looking to get away from drama, it is light and cheerfull even at the peak of hysteria of the story. "

" 3.5/5 actually, but I enjoyed it so I'm arbitrarily rounding up. I really liked this book! Emily's a bit of a smart mouth, definitely unique. And why not, strange. No memory of anything, she wakes up one day and decides to call herself Earwig. Her whole point is to figure out who she is. "

" I was really excited to read this novel after reading a graphic novel of the same character. I enjoyed the fierceness that is Emily the Strange, but the story was a bit exhausting. The author definitely has imagination, but the narrative couldn't keep my attention until the end. "

" It was a different book and very strange with little drawings and doodles all over the pages. There are lots of 13 lists in it since she likes that number. The book had 266 pages including the three appendix. "
