But when she defies him, Robert Gilmore throws Kenna out onto the streets of Victorian Edinburgh to fend for herself. Rescued from the street by a widowed English doctor, Dominic Sterne, Kenna's luck seems to have turned. But Robert has not yet finished with her. " I think the author couldn't decide what type of book she wanted to write. The heroine starts out as engaging but quickly becomes annoying. The villains do/think horrible things but always feel bad about it...too many unclear and mixed feelings in this book to make it enjoyable. "
