Publisher Description

Baking is an alchemical process for Corinna Chapman. At four am she starts work at Earthly Delights, her bakery in Calico Alley.

But one morning Corinna receives a threatening note saying The wages of sin is death and finds a syringe in her cat's paw. A blue-faced junkie has collapsed in the dark alley and a mysterious man with beautiful eyes appears with a plan for Corinna and her bread. Then it is Goths, dead drug addicts, witchcraft, a homeless boy, and a missing girl and it seems she will never get those muffins cooked in time.

With flair, chutzpah and a talent for kneading, Corinna Chapman will find out who exactly is threatening her life and bake some beautiful bread.

"How often do you find a new author you ADORE? The Corinna Chapman series is excellent, and her other series is more lighthearted but also very good. The book 1 of both series was free on Kindle, and may still be, but I warn you, you will want to buy more of them!"

" Not as good as the Phryne Fisher series for me, but I did like Corinna and the story was interesting and believable. I can see myself beginning to love the characters in the apartment block though, all good personality types. "

" Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as I do all of Kerry Greenwood's. This was my first encounter with Corinna Chapman, and I look forward to more. Kerry Greenwood has a wonderful way of weaving setting and characters to the point where they are so familiar. I enjoy her writing style, which is so refreshing. "

" Nice little domestic mystery placed in Melbourne, Australia. I would like to know what a "ketschele" is and there are other expressions and words that are undecipherable in American. "

" This was an "ok" book. I kept trying to solve the mystery which kept me interested, but it really through me for a loop in the end and kind of grossed me out. I was not really motivated to read any of her other novels after reading this one. "

" Very much enjoyed the writing style, use of effective sarcasm, and loved the locale of Australia, and insights into her career as a baker. Not so fond of the all the Goth influence, but that is just me, and still an enjoyable read. "

" Change of pace from the Phryne Fisher series. Greenwood is very adept at creating fun, interesting heroines that you want to keep following. "

" Way more fun than chick-lit usually is for me. The main character isn't even close to perfect, as is too often the case in this genre. The supporting characters are engaging. Dual mystery story lines kept the story line chock full of clues. "

" New series (Greenwood has the Phryony Fisher series which I like) and this is even more fun. And it' set in a bakery and there are recipes and tips - what more could I ask for!!?? "
