Publisher Description

Her job description is the "tracking and apprehension of mentally-fractured killers." What this really means in FBI profiler Jace Valchek's brave new world—one in which only one percent of the population is human—is that a woman's work is never done. And real is getting stranger every day . . .

Jace has been ripped from her reality by David Cassius, the vampire head of the NSA. He knows that she's the best there is in the business, and David needs her help in solving a series of gruesome murders of vampires and werewolves. David's world—one that also includes lycanthropes and golems—is one with little knowledge of mental illness. An insane serial killer is a threat the NSA has no experience with. But Jace does. Stranded in a reality where Bela Lugosi is a bigger box office draw than Bruce Willis and every full moon is Mardi Gras, Jace must now hunt down a fellow human before he brings the entire planet to the brink of madness. Or she may never see her own world again . . .

"Liked it. It started out pretty good. The story was interesting. The characters were intriguing. There was some good humor going down. I was willing to overlook the flaws. But then the story got a little weak, as did the characters (seeing that they did not develop much), and the ending was rushed. I think I'd give it a 3 and a 1/2 stars. Oh and Jace has more chemistry with (the organ-less) Charlie than she does with Cassius. Plus I was not convinced that Cassius feels all that much, Jace saw grief and regret, but I sure did not."

" Lots of stuff going on in this alternate world but I was really more interested in the bodyguard/sidekick gollem, Charlie. Didn't care much for the heroine or any of the other characters. Not sure if I'll continue with this series. "

" Wow. This book grabs you right away and keeps you in the story till the final period! Imagination...that's what is so great about this book. Jace is dragged through an interdeimensional portal into a world where magic, pires, thropes and shape changers are the dominant races and humans are the one percenters! She only has to save their world before she can go back to her own...maybe! "

" Refreshingly new concept with an alternate world filled with vampires, lycanthropes, and humans parallel to our own non-magical one. Loved the world-building by Barant and especially the cast of characters she created: our sarcastic bad-ass human heroine, the stoic vampire in charge, the golem sidekick, to name a few. The novel is filled with action, humor, suspense, and heart. Looking forward to the next in the series!! Almost 5 stars but the ending was a little anti-climatic. "

" I enjoyed Dying Bites. Jace takes an unexpected trip to an alternate reality, where vampires, werewolves and golems live with humans. A nicely different way to look at urban fantasy. I look for ward to seeing more of the trials and tribulations of Jace, Charlie, Cassius and the gang!! "

" Very good and interesting twist on the whole Vampire/Werewolf thing. I will be continuing this series, but I do have a nagging suspicion that it might end up being like the Anita Blake series--start strong and then turn into a Harlequin Romance series. "

" I have to say that the storyline is very original. The first person style though, is a bit jarring at times and reads like an old Philip Marlow novel. Other then that, good characters and well written. "

" I quite enjoyed this book although I'm ambivalent about the main character; perhaps she was a little stressed over the incredible position she found herself in. Both she and the plot improved enough in the second half of the book to make me interested in continuing with the series. "
