Publisher Description

The creator of Home turns a droll eye to the natural world with a playful invented language.

Du iz tak? What is that? As a tiny shoot unfurls, two damselflies peer at it in wonder. When the plant grows taller and sprouts leaves, some young beetles arrive to gander, and soon—with the help of a pill bug named Icky—they wrangle a ladder and build a tree fort. But this is the wild world, after all, and something horrible is waiting to swoop down—booby voobeck!—only to be carried off in turn. Su! With exquisitely detailed illustrations and tragicomic flair, Carson Ellis invites readers to imagine the dramatic possibilities to be found in even the humblest backyard. Su!

About Carson Ellis

Carson Ellis loved exploring the woods, drawing, and nursing wounded animals back to health as a child. As an adult, little has changed, except she is now the acclaimed illustrator of several books for children, including Lemony Snicket’s The Composer Is Dead, Dillweed’s Revenge by Florence Parry Heide, and The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.

About Sebastian D'Amico

Sarah Hart is a respected pure mathematician and a gifted expositor of mathematics. When promoted to full professor of mathematics at Birkbeck College of the University of London in 2013, she became the youngest STEM professor at Birkbeck, its first ever woman mathematics professor, and one of only five women mathematics professors under the age of forty in the United Kingdom. Educated at Oxford and Manchester, she holds the Gresham Professorship of Geometry, the oldest mathematics chair in the UK, which stretches back in an unbroken lineage to 1597. She is the 33rd Gresham Professor of Geometry and the first woman ever to hold the position.
