New York-based author and teacher Dale Peck was inspired to write this amazing story after the events of September 11, 2001. The three Oakenfeld children-Susan, Charles and Murray-are perplexed. Their parents aren't letting them turn on the television. Something strange is going on in the city, that's for sure. And now Mom and Dad are sending them off to Canada to stay with their Uncle Farley-who they've never even met!

"Just so you know, I was reading the unrevised copy of this book. This is one of the few copies, and I'm so glad my mom grabbed it for me. I wouls reccomend this book at any time of day, and you really should read it. It's funny, and some of the text has double entendre. "

“Readers will find themselves drawn in by the appealing characters, generous doses of humor, and the palpable presence of the narrator, who addresses readers directly, sharing intimate details and inviting them to take part in the story as it unfolds.”
— School Library Journal" An enjoyable book, a little drawn out, but still an amazingly told fairytale. "
— Mareena, 2/6/2014" This book has a really interesting premise and idea driving the story. I liked seeing how the mystery unfolded at the beginning, but got a little tired of it mid-way through (which is common for me). It was still pretty good and worth a read if you like fantasy. "

— Sarah, 9/30/2009" This book is aimed at a younger audience, so I could never really get into it and I thought that the characters were boring. I did, however, like the talking parrot and the talking whale. This would probably be considered as a great book by someone a bit younger. "

— Tia, 4/13/2009" So far, this book is really channeling the tv show "Lost"--but for kids. It's definitely curiousity-piquing and involves time travel. It reminds me of a mixture of the Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and A Wrinkle in Time. "
