Publisher Description

Set in 1906, Dreamhunter describes a world very similar to ours, except for a special place, known simply as The Place, where only a select group of people can go. These people are called Dreamhunters and they harvest dreams that are then transmitted to the general public for the purposes of entertainment, therapy - or terror and political coercion.

Fifteen-year-old cousins Laura Hame and Rose Tiebold both come from famous dreamhunting families, but only Laura proves to be blessed with the gift. Once inside The Place, she finds out what happened to her missing dreamhunter father and discovers that the government has been using dreams to control an ever-growing population of convicts and political dissenters.

"i was surprised by how pulled into this book i got. and when i finished i couldn't stop thinking about it. to me that is a good book. basically this book takes place in our world (but like australia) but there is this one bit that is different. there is the place. only certain people have the ability to enter the place and when in there they collect dreams which they can then broadcast to anyone who is sleeping near them. imagine the possibilities: healing dreams happy dreams illicit romances...and nightmares. laura is the daughter of the most famous and most skilled dreamhunter and has just learned that she too can enter the place. but the place is not the benign entity that the general public believes it to be. some politicians have evil plans to use dreams to control the public and laura's father leaves her to prevent that from happening. coming of age political intrigue spiritual awakening this is a unique novel."

" OK somebody tell me if they've read this and loved it. I got to about page 100 and couldn't convince myself that I should keep going because I just wasn't enjoying it. Tell me if I should keep at it! :) "

" I'm giving this five stars for the lovely characters and story, even though I was sometimes confused about the plot a bit, but maybe that's because I was reading too fast. I tried to slow down, but couldn't so that's a good thing, huh? Golems and dreams, steam trains and coming-of-age confusion, scheming government officials, philosophical troubles about creation and time. New Zealand author! Thanks for the recommendation, Kelly Link. "

" The only word I can use to describe this book is "wierd" It was almost psychotic. The thought process in this book was choppy as well. There is a second book and I'm not sure I want to continue. Although I probably will read it because I want to see if it will get any more bizarre. "
