" I can't give this an objective review, since it was a required high school reading and the analysis we did on the book in class was terrible. It's a book everyone should read to understand literary references to the story, but I can't assure that you will enjoy it. "

" I picture this as more of an intellectual novel for an audience of well educated people. I liked this book a lot, and if you have the time, I suggest you read it. This book is set in London in the late 1800s. He was trying to capture the mind set of someone hunting a serial killer. It is kind of a thriller novel. "

" A brilliant inspiration. Horrible execution. A bit of advice to people; read this on a gloomy rainy day or if you like classics. Read if you fancy but everything went downhill in the last 2 chapters. You've been warned. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Chelsea Gouin | 1/21/2014

" I'm a huge fan of the musical, compared to this... the book is a disappointment. There just wasn't much of a story. it was just far too short! Could have been longer and expanded. I did like how you didn't hear from Jekyll until the last chapter though. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Bridget | 1/12/2014

" I liked it, it was short and to the point. I don't get the werewolf metaphor. I do however get the drug abuse metaphor. Didn't like how it ended however. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ricardo | 1/5/2014

" Great stuff. I gave it four stars not so much for the text itself but more for it's narrative structure and relevance. Stevenson is a classic but this book is absolutely essential reading to understand our times. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Gustaf Drevin | 11/23/2013

" Stevenson experiments and challanges the intrisic human natures: good versus evil. Who will win, we ask ourselves as Dr Jekyll takes to potion which removes the human elements from the otherwise evil and inhuman character, to become Mr Hyde. "

" I knew the story so well before reading it, from movies and other literary references, that the actual book just seemed dull. There were no surprises and I actually found the writing quite dry. I appreciate the story and its place in our culture, but I can't say I admire the book itself as much. "

" Staring Mr. Hyde as a mischief making monkey man. He does get pretty savage on an old man with a cane, but I was somehow expecting more from him and something else from this book. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Nicole | 8/25/2013

" I still love it, although it isn't all that exciting... A bit slower pace than modern horror stories, it's still a classic tale. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jason Tham | 7/28/2013

" Beautifully written, but I felt like it ended really abruptly and disappointingly. I really wanted it to keep going or have some stronger resolution. The prose is pretty fantastic though. "

" Easily my most favorite book !! Amazing, haunting, fascinating, creepy - just an endless list of superlatives befit this one... "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Christopher Roberts | 3/1/2013

" Of the three big 19th Century horror novels I think I liked this on the least. A great idea, obviously influential, but after seeing it done a million times sense I can't get that excited about the original. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Gregory Rothbard | 10/26/2012

" A short Novella that digs into the Psychology of the angelic man, made before the fall; and the dirty creatures, that lies in all humans. The psychology developed and explained here is great. If you are looking for a long read, this will not suffice. "

" "Dr.Jekyll" is cool but really guys, "The Merry Men" is the real shit. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Anne | 5/16/2011

" Even without the suspense as to the outcome, the book was an entertaining read. And, it's a classic! I have seen the play before and next time I'll have the full story in mind to make it richer. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Maria | 5/16/2011

" Lovely writing. Intricate, elegant phrasing that is so far removed from the blunt way we communicate in the modern world. Also an intriguing investigation of the desire to indulge in vice without consequence. "

" The sotry is nothing like pop culture portrays. The monster is a small man, not a huge giant. I read it for the cultural experience. I wouldn't read it again. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jake | 5/6/2011

" Audio Book. Like all books that have become horror classics, the original is not scary or horrible. It is a much different story than Hollywood has made it. "
