Chet, the wise and lovable canine narrator of Dog on It, and Bernie, a down-on-his-luck private investigator, are quick to take a new case involving a frantic mother searching for her teenage daughter. This well-behaved and gifted student may or may not have been kidnapped, but she has definitely gotten mixed up with some very unsavory characters. With Chet's highly trained nose leading the way, their hunt for clues takes them into the desert to biker bars and other exotic locales-until the bad guys try to turn the tables and the resourceful duo lands in the paws of peril. Spencer Quinn's irresistible mystery kicks off a delightful new series that will have readers panting for more.

"Just finished this book and it had me laughing out loud. All the little dog nuances we've heard (canines can't count, don't have a good grasp of passing time, etc.) are played out in Chet the dog with humor and warmth. Don't resist this book because you can't imagine a mystery told from a canine's point of view. It's as psychologically intense as any good mystery. Course, it helps if you like dogs, but I think cat people will even be entranced by Chet (though he's no cat lover). I highly recommend you read this delightful book!"

“Dog on It has got more going for it than 50 of those cat cozies…My sincere advice to you is to rush to your nearest bookstore and put your paws on this enchanting, one-of-a-kind novel.”
— Stephen King“A winning debut…that fans of classic mysteries are sure to appreciate.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“[Dog on It] will delight dog-loving mystery readers, but the book is also an excellent PI tale, dogs aside…A great sleuth and always upbeat, Chet may well be one of the most appealing new detectives on the block, but Bernie us a close runner-up. Excellent and fully fleshed primary and secondary characters, a consistently doggy view of the world, and a sprightly pace make this a not-to-be-missed debut. Essential for all mystery collections and for dog lovers everywhere.”
— Booklist (starred review)“At last, a dog lover’s mystery that portrays dogs as they really are…Quinn’s characters are endearing, and his narrative is intriguing, fast-moving, and well written. Even cat lovers will find it entertaining.”
— Library Journal (starred review)“I’m not a dog fancier, but I had a great time reading this book…Chet is a hoot—or should I say a howl.”
— Boston Globe“[Dog on It] features the most winning narrator I’ve come across in a long time…[and] manages to ratchet up some real suspense.”
— Christian Science Monitor" Loved this one! Totally sucked me in and read the whole thing in a couple days! "
— Connie, 2/19/2014" Chet and Bernie are two imperfect characters that somehow make up one really good detective. Each character is interesting, the writing style is both humorous and serious be turn. "
— Jim, 1/24/2014" I like mysteries and I like dog stories, but rarely together. Most animal detective stores are cloying, so I was reluctant to give this one a try. However, Quinn somehow managed to make the story quite humorous by never letting us forget that the dog is...a dog. The fact that that Chet, the dog, narrates the story makes it especially clever in that regard. I might even read another book in the series...this is number one. "
— Kathy, 1/20/2014" loved it, really funny detective story from the dog's point of view, first in a new series, will definitely read them all. it's also a good mystery, on top of the dog angle. "
— Patty, 1/18/2014" Very clever and creative. This author understands dogs and how they relate to their people. "

— Sumos_Mom, 1/15/2014" A cute book. I really enjoyed the narrative being done by Chet! "
— Angie, 1/8/2014" Cute but nothing amazing. Whole thing told from the dog's perspective. Listened to it as we drove across Texas so I am grateful to it for it's time-killing mile eating help across the desert! "
— Dana, 1/8/2014" I enjoyed this book even though the dialogue was pretty simple. But it was humorous, made me laugh. I loved Chet the dog, who is the narrator. Dog lovers will love this book. Fast, easy summer read. "
— Leah, 1/3/2014" I'm not much into mysteries but telling the story from the point of view of the dog intrigued me. "
— Ophelia3339, 12/11/2013" I really enjoyed this book. Five stars for being a good mystery, with good characters I want to see again, and I think the author totally nailed Chet's voice. No small feat in a world of "dog books" gone bad. Great summer tale (tail??). "
— Angela, 11/9/2013" Great read, told from the perspective of Chet, the dog. It's funny and I often found myself forgetting that it wasn't written by a dog. In fact, I finished this book and picked up the next in the series. My only complaint was the mystery aspect wasn't great. It was easily solved, but worth the read. "
— J.A., 10/9/2013" Loved it!! It's about time we had a dog cozy! "
— Joyce, 9/13/2013" This book was hilarious. I picked it up to take on a car trip and finished it before we arrived. The dogs perception of his surroundings and the humans in his life were such a delight. It is an easy read and definately on my list of series to read! "
— Kirsten, 9/10/2013" What an adorable book. Can't wait for the next one. "
— Lisa, 8/23/2013" I wish I could give this 4.5. It's just a fun book, a mystery told from the point of view of a private detective's dog. He stumbles on the answer to the mystery earlier than the detective does, but there's this little communication problem. . . . A very enjoyable, fast read. "
— Stefanie, 8/14/2013" Fluffy & cute....dog-lovers will like it. Not much in terms of plot "
— Karen, 6/18/2013" What an enjoyable read. Funny, interesting and engaging. One I enjoy recommending to others. "
— Jayway, 3/24/2013" Told from Chet the dog's point of view, I found this novel a bit slim on intrigue and complexity. "
— Jill, 3/12/2013" Different book. Not bad. Written from a dog's point of view. Washed up private investigator and his dog somehow manage to solve the case. "
— Cherie, 12/6/2012" I really enjoyed this book. I marveled Mr. Quinn's ability to keep in character. Chet is funny, witty and enchanting. Mr. Quinn almost made me a believer. I want to read more about Chet and Bernie. "
— Gail, 7/2/2012" Great book! I love that it was written from the dog's point of view-so insightful! Helped me understand my dog and her ADD a little better! Can't wait to read more of this series. "

— Jennifer, 3/19/2012" A really clever mystery especially if you are a dog lover like me! "
— Cheryl, 3/7/2012" A Chet (the Jet - dog) and Bernie mystery. Chet narrates. Hilarious and exciting mystery involving kidnapped young girl (Madison) whose father is in financial trouble. Some of Chet's thoughts/questions I can see in Breck's expressions. Really fun read. "
— Courtney, 2/22/2012" At times, this book was laugh out loud funny. "
— Michelle, 12/19/2011" I really enjoyed this first book about Chet (the dog) and Bernie (the P.I.) narrated by Chet! Of course Chet was instrumental in solving the crime and rescuing Bernie. "

— Concetta, 10/1/2011" Great read - I hope this is the first of a long series. "
— Karen, 5/26/2011" A great book. Told from Chet's (the dog) point of view, it was highly entertaining and endearing. A lot of fun to "see" things from a dog's perspective. If you love fun detective novels or buddy books, you can't go wrong with this one. "
— Jason, 5/20/2011" good book I will read the next one! The way the book is writen in chets point of view i love books like this! "
— Meggo, 5/15/2011" cute with the narrator the dog, but not as good as racing in the rain "
— jeanette, 5/14/2011" It was a cute story. It was a new angle for me to read a story from an animals point of view. Liked bothe the dog and owner character, it was a nice lite read. "
— Jorge, 5/14/2011" Took a few chapters to get into the Dog's POV, but once I did it was an enjoyable read. Quite a few Deus Ex Machina elements, but he writes suspense very well and captures the dog/owner bond beautifully. I wish Porter and I could solve a crime together...<br/> "
— Tom, 5/10/2011" This is a very enjoyable book, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. "
