Publisher Description

It is almost Halloween in the sleepy New England town of Blackwood Falls. Paper skeletons hang in windows and carved pumpkins leer from porches.

The Doctor and Martha soon discover that this will be no ordinary Halloween. What is the secret of the ancient tree and the book discovered tangled in its roots? What rises from the local churchyard at night, sealing up the lips of the only witness? Why are the harmless trappings of Halloween taking on a creepy new life of their own?

As nightmarish creatures prowl the streets, the Doctor and Martha must battle to prevent both the townspeople and themselves from suffering a grisly fate.

Featuring the Doctor and Martha as played by David Tennant and Freema Agyeman in the hit series from BBC Television, the story is read by Will Thorp, who played Toby Zed in the TV episodes The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit.

"Good clean fun. Basically your run-of-the-mill Halloween Episode of Doctor Who (Ten&Martha). Some of the New Englandisms were a little "off," as may be expected from a British writer, but not annoyingly so. Plus, killer clowns. "

" This book has me wanting to read more Dr. Who books for sure. The use of Halloween combined with aliens was awesome!! "

" I love having the supernatural explained with science, whether it be everyday science or sci-fi from another planet science. It helps give it an extra layer. I would have given it a 5 out of 5, but the teens got on my nerves a bit. "

" The characterization was surprisingly decent and there were some nice snarky moments in there, but unfortunately the prose was otherwise unremarkable and the plot promising but not compelling. An entertaining and imaginative romp, but not really memorable. Two stars. "

" This Doctor Who novel was OK. I enjoyed the fact it was the doctor... but the story itself just didn't do it for me. That happens sometimes. I think the problem with this one is that it was very visual so it would go well for the show, just not as great in the book. "

" I'll have to re-read this around Halloween. Good creepy fun, and the author got the characterisations pretty much bang on. "
