Peter J. Hammond wrote the Torchwood stories Small Worlds and From out of the Rain as well as the unproduced Doctor Who story Paradise 5, which would later be adapted into an audio drama. He is also known for creating the British science fiction series Sapphire & Steel.

In addition, he has written ten nonfiction books on various aspects of film and television, eleven original short stories for various magazines and anthologies, and a television script for Sky One.
