On some days, New York is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. This was one of the other days... Melody Malone, owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency, has an unexpected caller. It's movie star Rock Railton, and he thinks someone is out to kill him. When he mentions the 'kiss of the Angel', she takes the case.

Angels are Melody's business... At the press party for Railton's latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to the film set of their next blockbuster. He's obviously spotted her potential, and Melody is flattered when Kliener asks her to become a star. But the cost of fame, she'll soon discover, is greater than anyone could possibly imagine. Will Melody be able to escape Kliener's dastardly plan - before the Angels take Manhattan?

" Loved this book. I love that it ties in with The Angels Take Manhattan perfecly. Now I've read one of the books The Doctor has read. Being the first book I've seen from River Song's (one of my favorite people) point of view made it great. It was like having a sneak peak inside River's brain. This one will be worth a second read. " a thrilling book that shows stuff... "

" I actually listened to the audiobook, which was read by Alex Kingston. It was really good, an easy listen which was good for my drive. "

" What not what I was expecting. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Amanda | 1/21/2014

" While I love Doctor Who stories, it was really annoying for her to spend most of the story going on about how perfect she was. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Henri | 1/16/2014

" I was hoping that the book would also contain the part of the story with the Doctor, Amy, and Rory (as a sort of read-along to the episode), but it was nonetheless amusing, written in perfect River-style. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Amanda Lovelace | 12/30/2013

" This was a really cool read. It gave insight to what River was up to before she ran into Rory in The Angels Take Manhattan. The author really seemed to capture River's personality and sassiness. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Shawna Kosakowski | 12/16/2013

" The book as a stand-alone is well-written but too short (not advertised as a novella). I was expecting a tie-in to the episode and was disappointed. "

" I expected it to be closer to what we saw during "Angels Take Manhattan". Its not a bad story, but very short and outside of the Angels, other than a few hints about time and Doctors with a capital D, there are no Doctor Who elements in the story. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kamilah | 12/3/2013

" Enjoyable read, mostly because I like the River Song/Melody Pond character from Doctor Who. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Elizabeth Kobayashi | 12/1/2013

" This was a funny, punny, silly little River Song adventure. The "About the Author" might have been my favorite part, and I laughed out loud more than once. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Alisa | 11/10/2013

" I guess you'd call this a companion book to the Doctor Who episode "The Angels Take Manhattan". It is not THE book that features in the episode (which is really disappointing) but it's still a fun bit of fluff, with a few bits of yowza. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Katy | 11/3/2013

" It was ok, I gave it an extra star because I didn't expect an actual book to come out of the Melody Malone character. They also get extra points for putting this out as an audio book read by Alex Kingston. It's a super short book, and an enjoyable listen on a short road trip. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lee | 10/12/2013

" The Doctor Who supplemental novella was exactly what I wanted. It was a quick read, and followed along like I was watching an episode of the show. It was slightly campy, very much predictable, but also enjoyable. It was an entertaining read, and I enjoyed getting a story from the mind of River Song. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Alicia | 4/25/2013

" I enjoyed River as the narrator of the story. I'm a little confused as to how the angel worked, because it seems different from Doctor Who episodes. A great short story! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Katharine | 2/20/2013

" Quite cute, doesn't have anything at all from the episode in it though, nor does it have Amy's afterword. "

" Not good and some what disappointing "

" Questionable Angel-logic, but overall rather entertaining and highly enjoyable to read it in River's voice. I wish there was a bit more to it - there seems to be a lot of potential in the Melody Malone story. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Liza H | 1/16/2013

" Cute and funny and quick- enjoyable read for the Doctor Who fan! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Emily | 1/6/2013

" Suspenseful and sexy, definitely true to Melody's character. I loved this story and hope there are more like it in the future. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Charmaine Clancy | 12/28/2012

" Probably only enjoyable if you saw the Doctor Who episode Angels Take Manhattan. Great little piece of intertextuality. Perfect reading of the slightly sleazy sleuth Melody Malone in the audiobook. "
