Publisher Description

"I loved this book, sequel to "Pillars of the Earth!" Ken Follet transported me right back to 14th century England, in the village of Kingsbridge and I became a part of that community - the serfs, the monks, the nuns, the knights and kings, and even the plague. Having just read the last words, I already know I'd re-read this one someday!"

" I didn't find this sequel as engrossing as it's predecessor. The jumps in time made it difficult to relate to the characters and building a tower doesn't compare to building a cathedral. I found it difficult to figure out which character I was supposed to care about. I enjoy the period but needed more character development to maintain my interest. "

" Excellent novel with rich period details like Pillars of the Earth. Continuity of the story told through the main characters as they live their life, and loves, in 1300's England. "

" I loved this book. I am not sure how I missed it when it was first released. Although some of the themes are similar to Pillars, I think Follett is so talented at writing engaging historical fiction with interesting characters that I forgive him that. I couldn't put it down (even though it was 1000+ pages). "

" I only give this two stars because it's basically the same book as Pillars of the Earth. I expect a different experience book to book so if I don't get one, I'll down-rank a sequel. Regardless, it's entertaining. "

" Ton's o twists on a grand scale. If you really liked Pillars of the Earth then you'll love finding out what happened after the Cathedral was built. The main characters were just a fabulous as POE and the antagonists even more villainous. The ending was very satisfying. "
