Publisher Description

Despite all the warning bells, Black Friday arrives as a devastating tidal wave that completely destroys our fragile economy in a single day. There is panic in the streets as banks close their doors, seemingly forever, at noon. Store shelves are swept bare and the gas pumps soon run dry. Jimmy Logan watches in disbelief as his world crumbles before his eyes. Luckily, he has friends who have planned ahead for this nightmarish scenario and he joins up with a group who plan to ride the storm out in northern Minnesota. Some of their group will be dead before the sun sets.

Jimmy soon finds himself in the battle of his life. The world changes in a single day and there seems to be no going back. People want what they have and they are willing to do anything, even kill, to get it. The government responds to the crisis by using the National Guard to round up the population and to secure them in relocation camps. Those who resist are shot.

This is Jimmy's story, but the premise might have been torn from today's headlines. The diverse group of people in this story could be your neighbors; your relatives, and this is a very realistic look at what the future might hold for all of us. What would you do to feed your family if you suddenly found that your life savings was as worthless as yesterday's newspaper? How far would you go to protect what you had, in case it was all that stood between you and starvation? Desperate Times explores these questions from Jimmy's point of view, the result is a thought-provoking story that may change the way you look at the world.

"This is a fantastic and terrifying read. Driven by very real life imagery that is spot on for current events, Antinozzi has driven a spike right through every American's greatest fears with this book. This all-too-possible survival story is well written and fast paced. I'm not a fan of the ending. Without spoiling it, I'll just say that the last chapter was a little far fetched after such a realistic book, but I would definitely read a sequel. This warning will have you stocking canned goods in your basement and buying as many guns as you can lay claim too. An excellent start for a new writer."

" So far it's pretty good. Kind of scary in a "could it really happen" kind of way. It's based in MN and is about a national government shutdown. Very interesting considering MN current situation. "

" Wow, the ending seemed a little unorganized and the dialogue fell flat in places. Good ideas, just poorly conveyed. "

" I suspect something like this will happen in the last days, or even sooner. But the poor writing/editing made this book a bit painful. Nevertheless, food storage is on my mind! "

" I never really got drawn into this book and (probably because of that) it seemed to drag on. There wasn't a clear trajectory to the book, either. I usually like the dystopian-type genre, but this one came across more of a scare-tactic opinion column than a novel. "

" This was a very interesting book especially with what is going on in our government today. It is about the break down of the economy in the US and how a group of friends and their families handle it. "

" Really liked this different apocalyptic vision of the end of the world. Very appropriate especially as with the recession and the run on the banks a couple of years ago.... Makes you wonder what could have happened if things hadn't stopped where they did! "

" Interesting, scary, premise of the collapse of the US government and economy and how it could swiftly degenerate into anarchy. Childish, juvenile prose, which negatively impacted my rating. If you don't mind reading lousy grammatical mechanics, you might like the story contained within. "

" Nick's book is a good read for those of us who are interested in what is happening in our world today. His book although it is fiction the possibility that we will live through just such an event someday is very possible. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I highly recommend it. "

" This is one of the best audiobooks I have heard in a long time. Mr. Cirillo acts out all the parts with a different voice. The story the way He tells it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Be careful though, once you start listening you wont want to stop. Great story and even better Narrator. Bravo! "

" Not sure how to rate this. It was funny to read the Minnesota references and know about the locations. I can't say that it was my favorite book, but I kept reading with interest all the way up to the end. Maybe just not a theme that I would normally pick. "
