For fourteen-year-old Lucy Martinez, that moment comes one night during a long road trip with her older brother, Jamie, and his friend Kit. They’re on their way to Phoenix to visit Lucy’s father for spring break, but never quite make it. While driving across northern New Mexico during a blinding rainstorm, their car hits something — an animal, they think. But after backtracking, they find a girl, dead, on the side of the road. With amazing insight and compelling prose, Elise Broach charts a suspenseful journey full of danger, loss, and painful self-discovery. What will happen to the lives of three teenagers who can suddenly no longer pretend innocence? Download and start listening now!

" What kind of person takes jewelry from a dead body? That's the question when Jamie, Kit and Lucy drive across New Mexico on the way to a Spring Break adventure and they hit something on the road. They back up and find a dead girl lying in a ditch. They tell someone, but is that really the right thing to do? Interestingly, this is not just a mystery, but there are two romances heating up in the novel as well. I loved the mystery and the quick chapters that made the action go much faster. The only thing I loathed about this novel was the protagonist, Lucy. Lucy just won't listen to anyone else and has to have everything her own way. Don't you just hate people like this? "

" This book started out eye-catching, from the start of it to where I am now, which is halfway through. The theme of it really gets you hanging on and wanting to turn page after page to see what happens next. Now the plot is something that gives this book it's follow-ability, it always leaves you hanging but at the same time it will give you that answer. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Elle | 9/25/2013

" This book was very odd. It deals with a dead girl who is found on the side of the road. The protagonist feels a duty to figure out how she died. It has a very dark mood to it, and the romance is unsettling and strange. Definitely not recommended for anyone under the age of 13. "

" I want to know what happens to the characters. I wasn't satisfied with how the author left them. I mean, how do they deal with all they went through? what happens with kit and lucy? I just kinda felt like these characters stories weren't done. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jessica | 6/29/2012

" I really enjoyed this book. It is a mystery novel with alittle bit of romance. it's very peculiar how the relationship turns out. plus the end of the book has sort of alittle twist to it that no one at first ever suspects. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Michelle | 5/27/2012

" I enjoyed the book. I thought that the 14 year old character, Lucy Martinez, was quite foolish. I don't think that the typical 14 year old girl would have put themselves in such dangerous situations. "

" i kind of liked this book although it leaves mysteries in the end. like, what happened between Kit and Lucy, and who were the girl's relatives. I think the end kind of explains it but not really. There should be another book about another adventure Lucy, the main character, goes through. "

" This story takes a few unexpected twists. There is a lot more to it than I thought there would be.

In some places, people come across as being creepy, and then there's the fact that nobody is what they seem. Oh, and there's murder thrown in as well. "

" it was a good book. kinda creeped me out when they found that dead girl in some ballerina pose, haha... not much of a suspense thing that would have made the book better. pretty awkward to have your brother like some old women, and pretty unoriginal to hook up with your brother's best friend...yeah "
