Publisher Description

At five and 20, Prudence Merryweather knew very well the risks a woman took by visiting a gentleman in the dead of night. But bearding the notorious Earl of Angelstone in his den was the only way to stop him from engaging her hot-headed brother in a duel. And that was why she found herself ushered into Sebastian's forbidding presence at three in the morning - and thoroughly kissed before dawn.

She was a country-bred innocent - and an intriguing experience for a man who dwelt more in the shadows than in the sunshine. Yet as her boldness drew Prue into one dangerous episode after another, Sebastian found himself torn between a raging hunger to possess her and a driving need to protect her. And the reckless beauty would soon need all the protection she could get.

"This may just be my favourite historical romance by this author. It has the requisite arrogant, cold, brooding hero, the intelligent, independent, feisty heroine, a mystery to solve, and the ton to challenge and/or follow. But Angelstone seems to be nicer to Prue right from the start, when compared to other Quick heroes; and Prue seems less naive compared to other heroines. Two interesting characters who deserved their HEA. The plot held my interest and the pacing made this a bit of a page-turner. Thoroughly enjoyed this "amusing" story."

" Disclaimer: I have a very low tolerance for "romance" novels. A work colleague gave me the book because she said it was different than other books one might term "bodice rippers" because the heroine solved mysteries. I haven't read enough in the genre to know conclusively, but references to throbbing members and aching loins makes me think that this book was not significantly different. Does any one read these books for the plot anyway? "

" A great Amanda Quick read and one of my favorite by her. Prudence is a strong, adventurous, and lovely heroine and it is an absolute joy to watch Sebastian, "The Fallen Angel," fall under her spell - completely unwillingly on his part and unknowingly on hers. Angelstone is great - the cold, austere, vengeful hero whom everyone is scared of ... except our heroine, of course, who intrigues and enchants him! "

" The mystery part of this book was too disturbing for me and not at all what I look for in historical romance. I also felt the hero was too cold and never got put in his place by the supposedly smart but unbelievably naive heroine. Between her past experiences and her intelligence, Prudence should have been much more knowledgeable about the human potential for cruelty instead of being blind-sided by it the entire book. "
