Award-winning author Pat G'Orge-Walker-who routinely sells out her one-woman Sister Betty stage show-is the queen of gospel comedy. When the unlucky in love Birdie Tweet meets Afro-Latino hunk Lyon Lipps, she thinks her romantic fortunes may change. But then she shows his picture to the other ladies of the Oh Lawd Why Am I Still Single church group, and several recognize Lyon as the con artist who previously seduced them. “Lizan Mitchell’s deadpan delivery is the perfect foil to this hilarious text. She depicts these women in well-modulated tones, not stereotypical accents. Mitchell’s voice is so intimate as she brings her audience into the fold that all who listen become coconspirators in this madcap romp. Whoda thunk Christian ladies could be so much fun? Hallelujah!”
