" Reading this book for work; so far it's come to my aid in our most recent "crucial conversation" with our kid's preschool teacher. I find most self-help books to be most helpful in the first hundred pages, and everything after that to be filler. I'm about fifty pages in, so we'll see if that's true here as well. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Douglas White | 2/10/2014

" This book deals with handling conversations where the stakes are high, emotions are probably involved and complexities may exist. Book is designed to help you weave your way through these conversations and avoiding the trap of making the other person bad in the process. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Zina | 2/8/2014

" This was a "read what you need" kind of book - and specifically helpful. Now to incorporate . . . "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Janine | 1/25/2014

" This was not just a book for me but a tool that I will use going forward in my crucial conversations both at home and at work. Now that I am done, I will have to go back through my notes and actually practice what I read. And that is what the authors recommend. Skills are taught that are impossible to acquire by simply reading through this book. This will take time, but for me this is worth the journey. "

" haven't integrated the practices into my life yet, but really like the concepts "

" A painful work book. The basic lesson learned is: breath, listen, think, respond. Too many examples of the same lesson. Why do consultants like this try to make their concept that could be covered in 50 pages 250? "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Janet Ott | 11/27/2013

" This was one of the most important books I've ever read. It shows how to figure out when you're in the middle of an important conversation, and, more importantly, how to negotiate it and extract yourself. Really terrific information. "
