Publisher Description

A black tide is swelling.

In the wake of a horrific massacre, the naiads have chosen to leave Thessalonike, and the merman Jade loves is leaving with them. But the naiads' departure can't quell the city's political tensions or satisfy Jade's enemies.

After disaster strikes, Jade must face sea dragons and the fathomless deep as she journeys to Marbella. There she learns that Thessalonike's infighting is the least of her world's concerns. A new empire is rising in the ocean, and it will stop at nothing in its quest for dominion.

Can Jade survive the churning current of fear and violence, or will it drag her to the depths?

About Catherine Jones Payne

Catherine Jones Payne is a Seattle native who loves the written word, international travel, crashing waves, and good coffee. Her earliest memory involves pulling up a rolling chair to her parents’ old DOS computer-while wearing a tiara, naturally-and tapping out a story of kidnapped princesses. By day she’s the managing editor of Quill Pen Editorial. She lives in Waco, Texas, with her historian husband, Brendan, and their cats, Mildred and Minerva.

About Emily Lawrence

Emily Lawrence, an actor and writer, is passionate about bringing stories to life. Her greatest strength as a performer is her ability to bring herself to the role, creating a wide range of emotionally resonant performances that leap off the page, stage, or screen. Her favorite characters are complicated, conflicted, and still searching for their inner truths. She has narrated more than 425 audiobooks, many of which were USA Today or New York Times bestsellers, and has also worked in film, television, and theater. Born and raised in New York, she moved to Los Angeles shortly after receiving her BFA in drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She also lived in London while studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.  Her greatest loves are acting and reading, so narrating audiobooks is a dream come true. Her other passions include traveling, LARPing, aerial circus, and chocolate.
