A heartwarming story about a girl whose dreams finally come true, read by Finty Williams

On the face of it, Beauty is lucky. She has a mum and dad who love her, lives in a lovely house and goes to a posh girls' school. But for shy, awkward Beauty, the reality is miserable.

She isn't a beauty, and the snobby girls at school have nicknamed her Ugly. Her mum is completely downtrodden by Beauty's fierce-tempered bully of a father. Beauty would give anything for a pet, but her dad won't hear of it in case it messes up their pristine house. After Beauty's birthday party is ruined by her dad's temper, her mum finally realises that they can't go on living with him.

They pack their bags and move to the seaside, where their new-found freedom and a moment of culinary inspiration give them a hobby, an income and a new nickname for Beauty. And to crown it all, she finds herself invited to take part in a popular children's TV show. But will she find the courage to accept?

"I thought this book was really nice! It was awesome! I was really shocked about the way Beuty's dad behaves with Beauty's mom and Beauty. I can't believe a mom who doesn't know how to cook!!! It must be really exciting to go and live on an island with your mom-although I would never do that because I have lovely parents! I really liked beauty when she cut her hair short! Well, I'm not giving away any suprises but Beauty had an awesome party!!! I really advise this book to many teens who think their name is stupid!"

" This is my first Jacqueline Wilson. It is a sensitive tale about a plain, timid girl called Beauty who is bullied at school. She and her mother live in constant fear of her father's unpredictability. "

" This book was ok, but however it was not very interesting. It had a very plain story line, nothing really exciting happened. Though it was quite disturbing when 'Birthday' the rabbit got its head ripped off by a fox:O... "

" I don't really admire Jaquline Wilson's books. She always writes about girls and even though I am a girl her books aren't very attracting or hooking. But this was the best book I've read by her. I can imagine this in reality. "

" For lack of anything else to read (thats a lie), i decided to give this a go. I'm not sure what the age group for this book is, but i found the protaganist very annoying and her father very real. So i was annoyed and interested at the same time. okay. "

" Really well-done book on a difficult subject. Beauty's father is emotionally abusive, and occasionally physically abusive, to both her and her mother. And they do end up leaving him. But really, there's much more to it than that. It's really good, but very cringe-inducing as well. "
