Johannes Fried is a German historian and medievalist. Fried studied at the University of Heidelberg, where he obtained his doctorate in 1970. He was a professor at the University of Cologne from 1980 to 1983 and currently holds the Chair of Medieval History at the University of Frankfurt am Main.
