"Carnelians is a solution for all the various story lines in Asaro's Skolian universe that began in Primary Inversion in 1995. Even if there are subsequent books, this one answers the burning questions. It's a bit telling so that all the threads will knit together. Still, it's a good read."

“Asaro’s Skolian saga is now nearly as long and in many ways as compelling as Dune, if not more so, featuring a multitude of stronger female characters.”
— Booklist“This long-running series is one of the best in which space opera meets romance. The empire is in a war that can only lead to mutual destruction, unless the two sides can make peace. This series features several ‘Romeo and Juliet’–type romances but with happier endings, as well as a fully developed science fictional universe that only acquires more depth with each title.”
— Library Journal, praise for the series" I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that Quis is the Glass Bead Game. All honor again to Asaro. "
— Maurynne, 12/14/2013" Outstanding! The narrator perhaps could have been better in spots, but the book was the amazing work I've come to expect from Catherine Asaro. This is a must read/listen for anyone who has read and enjoyed her earlier work. "
— Dionis, 9/18/2013" Another good entry in the series, best read immediately after The Ruby Dice and Diamond Star, as it is really a continuation of that story arc, rather than a stand-alone novel as many of the other Skolian series books are. "
— Carolyn, 5/16/2013" This was a great book. I really wanted to get more into the series. It is a great mix of science and fiction. I love the idea of telepathy and the Romeo/Juliet vibe. Always great when romance and adventure mix well. Five stars out of five. "
— Jamie, 11/27/2012" Disappointing. 4 parallel storylines: Kelric, Jabriol, a bit of Del's, plus a new character Aliana, which doesn't get enough space to get to know her or care. Nothing that surprised or excited me. Granted, I still read the book in one sitting, but it felt like just tying up loose ends. "
— Anastasia, 11/22/2012" I enjoyed it. I haven't read anything in the Skolian universe in awhile and it was better than i expected. "
— Marty, 11/17/2012" Loved it, of course. The addition of a few new minor characters added some newness to this all-too-familiar aiming for peace story. "
— Jessica, 10/18/2012" Much better than the book before! Another Asaro hit. "
— Maria, 9/23/2012" having more than one book focus on this particular Ruby heir takes some of the wonder away from having one event from multiple points-of-view, but still a GREAT book as always. Thanks Catherine! "
— Susan, 9/5/2012" 3.5 enjoyed it, but too many POVs to feel strongly invested in any of them "
— Jeri, 6/26/2012" space chess (hopfully) averts war "
