Oklahoma defense attorney Ben Kincaid has found himself smack in the middle of more than a few controversies and deadly predicaments–and the unexpected leap from his modest Tulsa law offices to Washington, D.C.’s Senate chamber hasn’t taken the edge off Ben’s knack for stepping into the line of fire. Now the idealistic junior senator is plunged into the thick of lethal intrigue when a shocking campaign of terror against key government officials rocks the nation’s capital. The nightmare begins with the abduction and murder of the director of Homeland Security; escalates with the killing of the Senate minority leader; and comes to a shattering climax at the site of the Oklahoma City Memorial, where a fusillade of sniper fire meant for the president claims unintended victims. In all, twelve people perish in the melee. But the smoke has barely cleared when the stunned nation is sent reeling yet again by the president’s impassioned call to amend the U.S. Constitution with an antiterrorism law that would drastically curtail civil liberties. It’s a hot-button issue, and the chief executive has handpicked Ben to help harvest the support that will make the amendment a reality. Shaken by the carnage, Ben embraces the president’s radical cause and takes the battle for the controversial bill to the Senate floor. But he can’t ignore his growing suspicion that what’s haunting Capitol Hill isn’t the specter of foreign terrorism but something much closer to home. Now, with his support team backing his play, Ben squares off against what could be the most dangerous Goliath he’s ever challenged.

"I thought this book was heads and shoulders above his last few books. I found it a 'can't put down' book and even though it wasn't equal to a Vince Flynn or Brian Haig thriller, it had a great plot. I would have given it 5 stars but a few of the occurrences fell a little flat."
— Kay (4 out of 5 stars)
" I thought it was an unlikely story-unbelievable! "
— Vicki, 2/15/2014" Hard to read and it pissed me off too many times "
— Duane, 2/13/2014" Ben Kincaid is in the middle of another controversy as he sits in Senate for the state of Oklahoma. This one I found very interesting in that the plot was based on an amendment to the U.S. Constitution with an anti-terrorism law that would curtail civil liberties. Of course with any Bernhardt novel you also have a couple of murders that Ben must also solve. In this one not only does the President fall into an assassination attempt but it happens twice! I can't put this series down and look forward to the next adventure. "
— Bernie, 2/3/2014" Nothing too special in this novel that may prove a worthwhile read for some 4 of 10 stars "
— Tim, 2/1/2014" Not my favorite of his books... "
— Cindy, 1/20/2014" A political thriller set after 9/11 in the U.S.A.The setting is Washington D.C. and involves Congress, the President, the F.B.I.& the Secret Service. An interesting book. "

— Momm, 10/30/2013" The third (and hopefully not last) novel in the Capitol series involving Ben Kincaid. I enjoyed this much more than I did Capitol Threat and can only hope that they keep getting better and better. "
— Stephanie, 10/5/2013" Got about 50 pages in. Corny and overblown dialog, unrealistic plotting. "
— Barak, 9/1/2013" A good political thriller--two intwined stories a mini trial over the 25th Amendment and a search for terrorists loose in Washington DC "
— Amy, 6/16/2013" Can't help it, I love political thrillers and this is a great one. Lessons about the importance of the Bill of Rights and how easily they can be eliminated. Twists and turns, and edge-of-your-seat,fast-paced and hard to put down. "
