Publisher Description

Today's global economy has a dark underbelly. Using cutting-edge technology and age-old techniques of deceit and manipulation, corporate spies are the hidden puppeteers of globalized business. They control markets, determine prices, influence corporate decisions, and manage the flow of data and information of some of the world's biggest conglomerates. In an age when international conflicts are as likely to be corporation versus corporation as they are to be nation versus nation, the actions of these remarkably efficient covert operatives raise a host of crucial - and frightening - moral and legal questions.

In his gripping, alarming exposé, Eamon Javers recounts the sordid history of this hidden world - from Allan Pinkerton, the nation's first private eye through Howard Hughes's private CIA, to the shocking realities of a vast modern-day spying network with tentacles reaching into virtually every corner of the globe.

"This book was quite interesting, from dumpster diving, to tactical behavior assessment (assessing lying by observing people's behaviors), to satellite surveillance, and everything in between. Corporate espionage is a HUGE, HUGE business. Oh boy - was I naive! Big Brother is here. Susan "

" A somewhat interesting book, but it felt really thin. Granted it's a tough subject for an investigative journalist, but it really felt like Javers was guessing/grasping at straws at times. Not disappointed I read it, but I was hoping for more. "

" kind of disappointing. Not very coherent. More like a historical review of the business with examples and therefore lacks a point, plot, and fun. The moral of this book? Corporate Espionage: it exists. "

" A good history/overview of the world of corporate espionage with good research and lots of examples; however, the author didn't seem emotionally engaged with the topic. The book comes off a bit dry as a consequence. "

" Cool book about role of corporate espionage. I enjoyed the story of the spy vs. spy game played by chocolate manufactures. "

" This is a great book. I would highly recommend it for those in competitive intelligence as full of examples of what NOT to do, but described in a highly entertaining way. Fabulous read. "

" I was expecting this book to be a little bit more engaging than it was. The parts covering the history of espionage, while interesting, seemed a bit like filler. "

" How could a book on this topic be so boring? I expected it to enlighten me on the cool stuff that was going on today, interesting stuff I didn't know, but instead I got yet another rehash of the Pinkertons and the history of the CIA. SNORESVILLE. "
