Jockey Kit Fielding has been riding the de Brescou's horses in a succession of triumphs on the race course. But this winning streak is about to end. Kit's twin sister, Holly, has come to him in desperation. Threatened by financial scandal, she and her husband may lose their training stables. Kit soon finds, though, that a greater danger lurks behind the threat-one that could be fatal. Narrator Simon Prebble has received enthusiastic praise for his superb performances of the Dick Francis novels. His sophisticated British voice is perfect for Kit Fielding, the elegant duchess who employs him, and the other polished residents of the horse racing world.

"I'm enjoying Dick Francis books more and more with each one that I read. They totally make me want to head to Wyoming Downs to watch some horse racing! "Break In" was a fun read...had a hard time putting it down. The mystery of whodunit and why wasn't obvious or predictable. "

" Was a little slow in parts. Not my favorite Dick Francis book. "
— Jeff, 2/18/2014" I'm really surprised how much I enjoyed it. The story is set in the world of horseracing - of which I have no interest - and its set among the old school British upper crust - of which I also have no interest. And I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. It was fun and paced well. I did have to keep reminding myself it took place in the 1980's and not the 1920's, but I think that's a throwback to the horseracing/upper crust thing .... "
— Geoffrey, 2/15/2014" Love all the Kit Fielding books, as well as others by Francis. "
— Lisa, 2/14/2014" Some of the language was lyrically expressive and rich--very elegant writing. The hero was more admirable and tough and perfectly forgiving than could possibly be believed. "
— Darcy, 1/25/2014" Entertaining read - especially loved the descriptions of the racing world and the horses. The main character, Kit Fielding, is a little too perfect/cocky (he's even tall for a jockey ;) ) but definitely a good start to reading this author's books. "
