Sunny Randall, the Boston P.I. with a personal life as tangled as that of her clients, is hired on as a bodyguard to an up-and-coming starlet, and discovers some ugly truths behind her glossy façade. Buddy Bollen is a C-list movie mogul who made his fortune producing films of questionable artistic merit. When Buddy hires Sunny Randall to protect his rising star and girlfriend, Erin Flint, Sunny knows from the start that the prickly, spoiled beauty won't make her job easy. And when Erin's sister, Misty, is found dead in the lavish home they share with sugar daddy Bollen, there doesn't seem to be a single lead worth pursuing. But then Sunny meets Jesse Stone, chief of police in Paradise, Massachusetts, under whose jurisdiction the case falls. Tracking Misty's murderer reveals a host of seedy complications behind Erin's glamorous lifestyle as well as Buddy Bollen's entertainment empire, made up of shady film deals and mobsters out for revenge. But in a world where there's little difference between the good guys and the bad, exposing the killer could prove to be Sunny's undoing.

"I quite enjoyed the book. I see it is called a Sunny Randall book, but you could also call it a Jesse Stone book as well. They are combined in the book for the first time. It was one of the better books by Robert B Parker. I really enjoyed it. And it even had a surprise ending. "
— Michael (5 out of 5 stars)
" Fifth book in the Sunny Randall series. Sunny, Boston private eye , meets Jesse Stone, Paradise police chief, to solve the murder of the sister of a movie star. Good. "
— Linda, 2/12/2014" One of Parker's worst books. This does reference Shakespeare on pages 161, 191, and 192. I wish he'd stop doing that so I could stop reading his crappy books. "
— Mike, 2/7/2014" I just needed a little book to occupy a few days. I read that thisa one involved Jessie Stoe, whom my husband and I have enjoyed on TV. So, I thought, why not? I did not realize that this was a series about Sunny Randall. I found her character fun and I could always picture Tom Selleck saying his lones or looking his quiet looks. They are a good team working to solve the murder of Misty. They work through all the possible scenerios and reach a conclusion that I found interesting and acceptable. "
— Sally, 2/5/2014" Don't know if I have ever read a Sunny Randall story. Good character! "
— Barbara, 1/31/2014" I thought this book was one of Robert B. Parker's best. I liked it how they had a list of suspects and they eventually brought it down to 2. I was extremely suprised as to who the killer was. I would have never thought it was them. Robert B. Parker is one of my favorite authors. "
— Daniel, 1/26/2014" "Thank you for meeting with me." I said. "Not a problem." He said. "Have you been here before?" I said. "No, I haven't." He said. "I like the main course." I said. "I agree." He said. "Oh! They have sushi" I said. "I see that." He said. Annoyed yet? The ENTIRE book was stated. No one "exclaimed" or "replied" or "accepted" or "complained" or any of the other 550 words the author could have used. The story wasn't interesting enough for me to try to listen to another book by this author, I said. "
— Original, 1/22/2014" I think knowing this is one of the last ones Robert Parker wrote before dying made me appreciate the budding romance between the two main characters. Felt like he was making sure there would be a happy ending for them both after all! "
— Andrea, 1/20/2014" i REALLY enjoy this character-she's a lot like steph plum the way she acts and talks and has issues! and now that she teams up with jesse stone i cant WAIT for more!!! super fast GOOD read! "
— Mich, 1/19/2014" I didn't like this Sunny Randall novel as much as the rest. It had way too many f-words and lots of sexual references, which I find offensive. "
— Terri, 1/17/2014" sunny randal is a fun character and the book was interesting but her dog drives me nuts. parker is a dog lover and all his protagonists have one but the fuss over the mini bull terrier in this book is too much. "
— Marion, 1/13/2014" I dearly love this book...it is a excellent book to read...it keeps your interest and once you start reading this you cannot put it down. I read this book in less than 24 hours. This has 61 Chapters to it and the chapters are rather short. "
— Linda, 1/1/2014" I can't decide if I like this series or not. I thought this one was kind of boring and I didn't like the tie-in with Jesse Stone. "
— Julaine, 12/27/2013" Pretty good stuff. Not as good as the first ones. More character development. "
— Mailmanr5, 12/26/2013" This was my first RBP to read - and I was not that impressed. I finished it but don't think I'll try anymore in this series. "
— Gina, 12/26/2013" Mr. Parker never disappoints, and this book was no exception. I love the way Sunny & Jesse interact, and I wish Jen would fall on Mr. Parker's pencil. The story was great, and I hope there are more like this one. "

— Alan, 11/30/2013" Always a pleasure to read Robert B. Parker novels... a nice break in between the heavier reading. In this novel, Sunny meets Jessie. Interesting banter, good food and meal details, characters predictable but you like them anyway. "
— Barrie, 9/30/2013" Really like Sunny Randall - but this story gets her together with Jesse Stone. Enjoyed the story very much. "
— Rhod, 9/3/2013" I love Sunny Randall :) "
— Shelby, 8/21/2013" Two of my favorite Robert Parker characters connect in this story to solve a murder. Sunny Randall, a private detective meets and collaborates with Jesse Stone, but Sunny is the main focus of the story. An interesting combination of two established, well defined characters. "

— Cyndee, 3/9/2012" Once I got accustomed to the cursing, it was a decent read. Nothing too exciting, but enjoyed it. "
— Joy, 2/7/2012" bought this one in the airport. it was as good as a book you buy in an airport - after you've read every us, in touch, star etc. "
— Jennie, 1/12/2012" A Sunny Randall book that's also a Jesse Stone book and even brings in Susan Silverman from the Spenser books for a cameo appearance. It's also a whodunit that remains a whodunit at the end. "
— Marty, 12/18/2011" I could not put this book down! The chapters were short, but always leaving you on a cliff hanger, so you would start the next chapter! Hope more of his books are like this~ "
— Mandy, 4/2/2011" Ever since the first Sunny Randall novel, I have thought she was the ideal person to team up with Jesse Stone. Both professionally and romantically. Woo Hoo! They are hot together. And they are human together, read to the end of the book to see why I say that. "
— Mary, 3/3/2011" Friends gave this to me when they'd read it; this is my first Parker mystery. It was entertaining. "
— Heather, 2/20/2011" I can't believe I hadn't read this book before. Now I understand how Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall got together. I probably now need to go back and read all of the 2 series in order (as if I need any reason to read or re-read Robert B. Parker books... "
