But it’s little Gracie who adorably steals the show; her precocious cuteness is so well written that it’s always endearing and authentic, never saccharine. While specific attention is not drawn to the consequences (or remorse) for past mistakes, a careful read reveals the author’s subtler approach to the same end. Repentance may not be overt, but the message of sin’s destructive power is clear as it plays out in the lives of the characters.”
