Publisher Description

“Why did he come back?" Tommy Tate finished his sophomore year alone at home, suspended from Latimer High School. Hated, dangerous, and accused of plotting to murder a classmate, Tommy was considered a monster by his peers and community. He swore that he would never step foot in LHS again. But now it’s fall, and after a summer of silence, Tommy arrives for the first day of school, leaving everyone to ask - why did he come back?

"I was recommended this book by an educator colleague. It took me a while to get into it but it hits another gear in Part II. I listened to the final half of the book in one day. It is driven by its high school characters and I found myself connecting with their journeys. The book carries a powerful message about bullying. I gave a physical copy of the book to a student who finished it in two days and felt the same way. Interestingly, my student also loved the characters but connected with different ones than I did. I am rounding up from four and a half stars, as I do think the book starts a bit slowly (my student disagreed) but ends on a strong note that I’ve been thinking about since finishing. I think this book has potential to start good class discussions about bullying with students. "
