Publisher Description

He had nothing to recommend him but his smile, and she was surely too old, and had too much commonsense, to be beguiled by a smile...

Miss Abigail Wendover's efforts to detach her spirited niece Fanny from a plausible fortune-hunter are complicated by the arrival in Bath of Miles Caverleigh. The black sheep of his family, a cynical, outrageous care-for-naught with a scandalous past - that would be a connection more shocking even than Fanny's unwise liaison with his nephew!

But Abbey, adept at managing her sweet, silly sister Selina, her lively niece, and the host of her admirers among Bath's circumscribed society, has less success in managing her own unruly heart...

"Delightful though predictable. Utterly charming. Though I'd never heard of this author before, I can see why she is compared with Jane Austen. Though she is certainly not as good of a writer as Austen, Georgette Heyer is just as good a story-teller. Loved the ending of this novel and look forward to reading another by Heyer in the future."

" Light gothic romance fiction, among my Mom's favorites. Considerably better than the average gothic romance. Some of them are more like historical fiction, such as Simon the Coldheart. I read them from time to time when I was growing up. "

" I picked this one up because everyone claims the author to be "Austenesque," and it was! I loved the witty humor and interesting characters. The book flew along at a clipping pace a lot more than Jane Austen's books. I will definitely be looking into more of her novels. "
