Publisher Description

Success catapulted Alex James from a slug-infested squat in Camberwell to a world of private jets and world-class restaurants. As the second drunkest member of the world's drunkest band life was always chaotic, but Alex James retained a boundless enthusiasm and curiosity at odds with his hedonistic lifestyle.

In Bit of a Blur he recounts his experiences living through the madness of Britpop, detailing both the pleasures and perils of fame. From nights in the Groucho with Damien Hirst, to dancing to Sister Sledge with Bjork, to being bitten on the nose by the lead singer of Iron Maiden, he offers a fascinating and hilarious insight into the world of celebrity.

Alex James is the perfect chronicler of his generation: witty, observant, frank, and brimming with joie de vivre. Bit of a Blur is as charming, funny, and deliciously disreputable as its author.

"Ok, as a big Blur fan I can't be desinterested here. I've been waiting for this kind of book for some time. I just wonder why the hell it took me so long to put my hands on this? I guess I just needed time to "ripen" to fully enjoy it. But on the other hand if I had read this book in high school I might have been a rock star by now. Not that I would like to be on cocaine and drinking tons of champagne but Alex's life story proves that you need some real balls and a lot of self-confidence to get what you want. The spontaneity, the enthusiasm, the optimism. That's what I lacked and, frankly, am still lacking. It's weird but this book has somehow opened my eyes and now I feel like I want to change some things when it comes to my life and how to live it. "Bit of a Blur" definitely should not be missing in your bookcase if you are a musician or an artist in general ... or a man who wants to know how it is to become successful in showbusiness and how it works there."

" uh, i didn't exactly read this, I listened to the audio book, which was a million times better I'm sure because Alex James himself reads it. If you like Blur at all, this is the best book ever. "

" I fluctuated between living Alex to wanting to give him a good shake! Alex James seems to have tripped through life trampling on everything and hurting those he cared for but still comes out shining and successful! Despite this his biography is an enjoyable read and when he decided to sort his life out he becomes a lot more likeable! "

" James's prose can be a bit flowery at times, but if you've read any of his columns then you'll be used to that. Not quite the warts and all account I might have hoped for, but James's wandering and enquiring mind makes it engaging enough. "

" Alex James, the gourgeous bass player from the Blur tells a lot about him...how he started playing the bass because buying a keyboard was too expensive, how is being a POP star in London in the 90's...how music is the best thing that can ever happen to you ;) "

It was very endearing. I'm glad I got to know more about Blur and each band member through the eyes of Alex. "
