Publisher Description

Paramhansa Yogananda was the first yoga master of India whose mission it was to permanently live and teach in the West. In the 1920s, as he criss-crossed the United States on what he called his spiritual campaigns, his enthusiastic audiences filled the largest halls of America. His initial impact was truly impressive. But his lasting influence is greater still.

This audiobook, the version of which was first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Only rarely does a sage of Paramhansa Yogananda's stature write a firsthand account of his life experiences. Followers of many religious traditions have come to recognize Autobiography of a Yogi as a masterpiece of spiritual literature. Yet, for all its depth, it is full of gentle humor, lively stories, and practical common sense. Now, with this audiobook, the 1946 edition is again available, with all its inherent power, just as the great master of yoga first presented it.

"I just loved this book! Strangely, I had never even heard of it until I met Sarah, my partner, who had a copy, and I just started reading it and before I knew it I couldn't put it down. His command of the English language and eloquence which with he described his powerful, ethereal experiences moved me deeply but not quite enough to move to India and become a sadhu; but it moved me nonetheless. My favourite chapter is the one where after his guru, Yukteswar, dies and comes back for a supernatural visit and explains to Yogananda life after life. It was truly amazing!"

" The most life changing book I have ever read. As a follower of Yogananda's teachings for the past 30 years this book has impacted my life and the search for the truth of existence. I would recommend this book if you are a spiritual seeker of any religion. "

" I know I'm "suppose" to love this. Every single spiritual person I meet gushes over this book and then gives me suspicious beedy eyes when I disagree. I got this look from husband, father in law, friends. I don't tell people I've read it now to avoid the conflict. "

" Some of the stories and parables from this book have stayed close with me over years, become well worn memories, while other sections are, um, dense, or unbelievable. The book seemed to change my life, but when I listened to it on tape a couple years ago it impressed me less. Very worth reading. "

" However skeptical I may be about the nature of the miracles and divinity that is throughout in this book, I was completely sucked in to the amazing life of Yogananda. This is an epic life story and quite educational too. "

" Sri Yogananda gives clear analysis of the interface between science and religion. Wish Stephen Hawking would read this book, or if he has, give it more diligence. As more discoveries reveal the amazing reality of our universe, Eastern spiritual practices as well as Western are rediscovered. "
