Mr. Phileas Fogg, master of precision, enters into the strangest wager ever made over the whist table—that he will circle the globe in 80 days. The news astounds Jean Passepartout, sometime wandering minstrel, bareback rider, funambulist, gymnast, and fireman, now turned valet to Mr. Fogg in the expectancy of a quiet and well-regulated life. For the next 80 days, their lives are anything but quiet or well-regulated.

" This is a book about a wealthy man named Phileas Fogg. Phileas Fogg made a bet that he could travel around the world in forty days. He trys and has many adventures on the way.I love this book and how Mr. Fogg is so calm on on time! "

" I love the mini-series of this from way back when-- I was surprised that mini-series seemed to have a lot more stories in it than the book. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Madeleine Landry | 1/17/2014

" A bit too much like reading an itinerary rather than an adventure, but I liked the story, if not so much the style of writing. "

" Amazing! If you haven't given this book a chance, I suggest you do! It has adventure and mystery, even a little romance. Something for everyone and incredible writing as well. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Brett Dewey | 1/12/2014

" What made reading it special this time was retelling the story to my son. Rather than read it to him I 'told' the story to him over several days - which allowed me to edit some of the dated world view (racist British imperial view of "savage" races in India, America etc). The tale of Mr. Fogg and Passepartou's adventure in a time when railroads and steamships first connected the world had him enthralled night after night. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Triana | 1/9/2014

" It was good, though the narrative of the adventures could've been more exciting. Nonetheless, the ending was great, and even if you'd expect something of the sort to happen, I never guessed what had indeed happenned! "

" Great classic story! It was evident that either Verne was well traveled or had read extensively. Several cliff hanging moments. No wonder it has been made into more than one film. "

" Jules Verne writes with a captivating style- this novel has an excellent plotline, with many twists and turns in between, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a different, but interesting, story to read. :) "

" So much fun--humor, adventure...I really liked this! Okay, yeah, there's a lot of obnoxious colonial attitude in this, but it was originally published in 1873 after all. I can make allowances for that, as it's still a really great story. "

About the Author
Author Jules Verne

Jules Verne (1828–1905) is considered by many the father of science fiction. Born in Nantes, France, he studied law but turned to writing opera libretti until the 1863 publication of Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first of his Extraordinary Voyages series. Its success encouraged him to produce a number of classic and prophetic science fiction novels, including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. His stories foresaw many scientific and technological developments, including the submarine, television, and space travel.
