" Absolutely loved Jim Dale's crystal-clear narration with appropriate pauses and character voices. What really helped me enjoy the audiobook was the accompanying music score. I could almost visualise myself being transported to the forests of India, the ports of China, the excitement of waiting for a thunderstorm on the seas, and experiencing the vastness of America. While it goes without saying that all of the above was only possible by the excellent writing from Jules Verne, what really made the difference here was the amazing narration by Jim Dale. I had not previously come across Jim Dale's work but now he's become one of my most favourite narrators. Listening to an audiobook, as opposed to reading a physical book, allows me to achieve two things at the same time. Looking forward to listening to more Jim Dale's work and rediscovering the fantastic work of Jules Verne. "

" Phileas Fogg, a seemingly straightforward man who lives by the tick of the clock, sets off spontaneously to travel around the world. He concidentally sets off on his journey after the bank is robbed, and he wagers a large sum with his associates at the Reform Club that he can arrive back home in 80 days. He is accompanied by his valet Passepartout, and followed by police detective Fix, who is convinced Fogg is the bank thief. They have many adventures and are joined along the way by Miss Aouda, a young lady whose life they save in India. This book is a classic, and I found it interesting, but it did not captivate my attention. "

" Wasn't sure if I could make through phrases such 'crusty Jew' but found myself getting sucked into the adventure :) read it with view to reading to class, but the language/references to opium might not be too suitable... Not as much seeing the world as I would have liked but a fun period book. "

" Brilliant. A very different and interesting story that's packed with tons of adventure and some science. Yes! I loved how time traveling plays a big role at the end. But, I have to admit that if it wasn't for Passepartout, the story would had been very different. He is the funny character that lights up the whole story and takes it to a higher level. "

" I was surprised by this book. It wasn't a terribly involved story, but in 240 pages you really got to know the two main characters quite well. It was easy to find them quite likeable in their journey around the world. A straight-forward adventure story with some nearly impossible situations, but like a good, old-timey story they tend to find neat ways to make it all work out. "

" A solid story, as most "classics" are, Verne spins an entertaining tale. While it's a little mild compared to some of today's thrillers, you can imagine how it was pretty ground breaking stuff in the late nineteenth century. Short, easy to read, I recommend it to fans of classics. "

I wish I had read it when I was young as I am sure I would have loved it as a kid. My class is loving the extra details I can add to their story and love that their teacher seems to know more about the story than he should... "

" What made reading it special this time was retelling the story to my son. Rather than read it to him I 'told' the story to him over several days - which allowed me to edit some of the dated world view (racist British imperial view of "savage" races in India, America etc). The tale of Mr. Fogg and Passepartou's adventure in a time when railroads and steamships first connected the world had him enthralled night after night. "

" Simple story, simply written, simple characters. A light read, by not Verne´s best by any means. I enjoyed ´Journey to the Center of the Earth´ more than this. Not as fun and as detailed as I expected. "

" i didnt love it. i took forever to read it. maybe thats why i didnt like it, it seemed to drag on until the end. i liked the ending, a twist. and love too, who doesnt like a fairy tale ending. im wondering if i should watch that movie they made about it. just to compare. "

About the Author

Jules Verne (1828–1905) is considered by many the father of science fiction. Born in Nantes, France, he studied law but turned to writing opera libretti until the 1863 publication of Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first of his Extraordinary Voyages series. Its success encouraged him to produce a number of classic and prophetic science fiction novels, including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. His stories foresaw many scientific and technological developments, including the submarine, television, and space travel.
