" I'm normally a huge fan of Anne Rivers Siddons, but this book fell flat for me. The main character and her husband were the only characters who inspired any real love in me. Everyone else either fell flat or made me dislike them. I felt NO sympathy when the "tragedies" struck, more of a sense of "Oh, so THAT'S the plot device of the week." I'm not sure what it was that just didn't work for me about this book, but it didn't work. Period. "

" This is the first of Anne Rivers SIddons books that I have read. It is about the friendship of four couples in CHarlston SC. I liked reading about the areas as they were familiar to me, but the story was so so. "

" I endured this book though it often felt like I was reading the Book of Job - a few too many casualties for me! "

" Wasn't feelng it- didn't care for the narrator's voice, but more importantly, I didn't care about any of the characters or their shallow story. This was an abridged version and that only made matters worse because it jumped around a lot. Not a big fan. "

" Kept me company on my trips to and from OK. "

" I thoroughly enjoyed Islands. The story concerns a group of married couples who are also best friends. They called themselves the 'scrubs', and the share a beach home and time together. Time passes, a few tragedies occur, and an absolute unforseen ending happens that will take your breath away! I loved it! "

" I haven't read an Anne Rivers Siddons book in years. I discovered her during high school and have enjoyed her writing ever since. I am a sucker for any stories involving the beach, friendships, life, etc. Perfect for a summer read. This story did not disappoint- although a bit typical, her writing is beautiful and I love the descriptions of the Charleston and Low Country areas. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Beverley Stephens | 12/23/2013

" Loved her writing style and the way she describes places and people but hated the ending. It sounded like someone else wrote it. Ruined the whole book for me. I'm now reading another one of hers but if it has a disappointing ending it will be the last. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Stacy | 11/13/2013

" I enjoy Siddons' books. I like the way she writes and love her ability to capture the South. I am particularly fond of the dynamics between the McMansion crowd and old families which she clearly and accurately portrays in her books. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Laurie | 9/13/2013

" The first few pages sucked me in. Then it rambled. It had some highlights, which kept me going, but it was painful for me. I didn't hate it by any means but I had to force myself to finish it and now I can move on with my life. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kristy | 8/28/2013

" Usually love this author but, this is kinda dull. I always love the settings of her books as they are always on the East Coast on the ocean. I liked Colony the best. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Rachel | 2/12/2013

" I felt quite distant from the characters in the book, but then 3/4 of the way through I began to find the story compelling. Certainly didn't expect the ending. "

" I loved the location of this story. Overall it was an easy read, but the relentless stream of tragedies got a little old. I wasn't expecting the twist at the end, but it did help to make sense of their "bad luck." "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Beth | 7/20/2012

" I enjoyed this. Some of the reviews said this was not Siddons best work. A story of long time friends enjoying their lives together and discovering one of them is a psychopath. The ending was and wasn't a surprise. Look forward to other works by Siddons. "
