"I enjoyed this book very much. It was the first in what I thought was going to be a trilogy. It seems now that there are four, and that I should add the next three to my list of things to read! This is a story about two young women of the civil war times. One is white and the other is black, and they develop a closeness that they keep secret."

" My mother gave me this book. It was a cute story about a little white girl and slave girl meeting during the Civil War. It was sweet, but slow moving. I didn't realize it was going to have a sequel, so it just kind of ended. I am not even curious enough to read the next one to see what happens. "

" This was an author I'd never read anything by. This series is historical/fiction and is about two pre-teens learning to survive after the Civil War. One is black and one is white. It's different than most historical/fiction books because it's not a romancce novel. I really enjoyed it. "
