Publisher Description

It is just two weeks before Christmas, and 16-year-old Leah Lewis-Hall is stuck in a hospital room. Leah is lonely and worried, but she doesn't want to trouble her honeymooning mother. When her new roommate Rebekah needs a friend, Leah forgets her own problems as she comforts the scared little Amish girl. Leah doesn't understand the Amish customs and beliefs, but she still looks forward to Rebekah's teenaged sister and brother's visits. Romantic sparks fly between Leah and brother Ethan. Then a mysterious "night nurse" whom only Leah and Rebekah can see appears to console the girls. Leah will need the support of all her friends when the doctor finally makes his diagnosis. Lurlene McDaniel's best-selling inspirational novels about teenagers facing life-altering situations captivate her many young adult fans. With narrator Kate Forbes highlighting the poignancy and romance of Leah's story, the result is a truly memorable and uplifting listening experience.

"I did not know what to expect from this book - boy was I surprised! What a heartwarming story - it caught me right from the start and kept me riveted throughout the trilogy. It could easily have been one book, since the story is really a continuation throughout - I really do not know why the author broke it up into 3 separate parts. Anyway, any story involving the Amish always intrigues me, and this one was no exception. The relationship between the Amish and the English in general is fascinating, but, of course, it was the love story that really got to me. I kept pulling for the relationship to work, even though their worlds were so far apart. This was a beautifully written story that brought tears to my eyes quite often. I did not want it to end - I wish there was a sequel! This author writes primarily for younger readers, but I found the theme to be universal - faith will get you through anything. Even if you do not believe in guardian angels, this story will have you second guessing. A quick, enjoyable, interesting book that I highly recommend for any age."

Quotes

  • “There are strong religious themes but the author avoids being preachy. A satisfying book that also provides insight into the Amish way of life.”

" I don't remember the details from this novel but, it really broke my heart to read it. All the novels of Lurlene McDaniel deal with somesort of cancer or other disease and this one is no different. I absolutely love the almost forbidden romance between a modern age girl and an Omish boy, brought together for their illnesses, well, the Omish boy's sister's illness. It really is hard to read the last book but, it really is great. "
