The seventeenth installment of the beloved New York Times bestselling series that boasts more than 600,000 books in print
The last four books in Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series have leapfrogged their way up the New York Times bestseller list, and Angelica's Smile will not disappoint this series' ever-growing fan base.
A rash of burglaries has Inspector Salvo Montalbano stumped. The criminals are so brazen that their leader, the anonymous Mr. Z, starts sending the Sicilian inspector menacing letters. Among those burgled is the young and beautiful Angelica Cosulich, who reminds the inspector of the love-interest in Ludovico Ariosto's chivalric romance, Orlando Furioso. Besotted by Angelica's charms, Montalbano imagines himself back in the medieval world of jousts and battles. But when one of the burglars turns up dead, Montalbano must snap out of his fantasy and unmask his challenger.

“No one today writes better mysteries than Camilleri and no one’s been better served than him by his translator. The distinguishing feature of these stories is their deft blend of old-style detecting, social commentary, and slapstick humor…Vigata, Sicily, may not be where you'd choose to live but it’s a lot of fun to visit. The author’s fans will devour this book.”
— Library Journal
“Montalbano, who, perhaps, loves his antipasto more than his detective work, looks into a rash of copycat burglaries in the Sicilian coastal village of Vigàta…Poor lovesick Montalbano tries to keep his mind on the case (but not too hard) in this delightful caper, replete with charming companions and a setting that’s a pleasure to return to.”
— Publishers Weekly“Narrator Grover Gardner is simply wonderful as Inspector Montalbano embarks on another complicated criminal investigation. Gardner’s voice contains that mysterious element we think of as ‘star quality,’ which makes listeners sit up and take notice…[A] cleverly plotted mystery.”
— AudioFile“The investigation of a string of burglaries becomes ticklishly complicated when the rumpled investigator finds himself entranced by one of the victims…Sublime, with droll dialogue, colorful characters and a sleek pace.”
