The childhood murder of Lydia Strong’s mother has turned her into a woman obsessed with bringing brutal killers to justice. The reclusive, bestselling true-crime writer and investigative consultant has made a life out of chasing monsters. And her powerful intuitions rarely fail her. When three adults — loners, drifters — go missing, no one seems to notice except for Lydia. Enlisting the help of her friend, former FBI agent Jeffrey Mark, Lydia starts an investigation of her own. But when someone raises the stakes and goes after Lydia — just as fifteen years ago when she put the FBI on the trail of her mother’s killer — the real hunt begins.

"I loved this book. I love the main characters Lydia and Jeffery. I even love that Lydia's a true-crime writer when usually authors who write about authors turn me off. Lydia's visiting her home in New Mexico trying to take a vacation when she reads the local paper and starts to piece recent missing person cases to a hospital supply house burglary. She brings in her friend, Jeffery, from New York to see what he thinks. And from the point on it's a roller coaster. I can't wait for the reprint of the sequel in November."

" This was one of Lisa Unger's early books written under Lisa Miscione. The setting was in Santa Fe,NM which I liked. Her character development is weak, and she has come a long way since this book. Still the plot is interesting and moves well. "
— Tricia, 2/20/2014" Love Lisa Unger! Now I need to hunt down the other books in the series!!!! "
— Lisa, 2/12/2014" Slow start but good book!! "
— Missy, 2/9/2014" Couldn't get into the characters. Just wasn't compelling. I won't be continuing this series. "
— Abby, 1/29/2014" I enjoyed the book but some parts were not believable. This is my first book with this author as I wanted to read them in order. My understanding is that her later books are great. "
— Chris, 1/18/2014" As a reader who knows northern New Mexico fairly well, I found the missinformation about the area detrimental to the storyline. One wonders if the writer has even visited the towns about which she is writing. "
— Betty, 1/16/2014" Very well written - Unger gave the main characters depth and complexity. I've read and enjoyed other Unger books - the storyline on this didn't grip me like some of the others, but did enjoy the read. "
— Teddie, 1/13/2014" This book was definitely a page turner. I just felt like it was missing something. I'm not sure what though. "
— Rosinda, 12/2/2013" Lisa Unger keeps you turning the pages "
— Penny, 9/16/2013" Interesting story and quick read, though not very believable. This might be my last Lisa Unger. "
— Sharon, 8/27/2013" For an Author's first book, this was very good. I am looking forward to reading more of her books. "
— Terry, 8/8/2013" This one had promise from the start, but in the end it ended up not for me. I liked Lydia, but things were moving super slow and the book had a hard time keeping my attention. "
— Darcy, 8/3/2013" This was a great book and impossible to believe it was her first. Well written entertaining and suspenseful. I recommend it highly. "
— Sherry, 5/23/2013" Solid 3.5-4 stars. Apparently this is Lisa Unger's first book so I thought a great effort for a first novel. "
— Rosalind, 2/9/2013" Not a bad read. An interesting story line and build up to the dramatic conclusion. Good enough that I'm sure I will read the next in the series. The characters have the potential to develop into something more. "
— Cathy, 1/8/2013" Very good page-turner! "
— Isobel, 12/25/2012" Okay, so I didn't finish it. There are just too many books and not enough time. I got half-way through and gave up. I will read another of Ms. Unger's books as I have heard this was her first and not her best. I hope to have better reviews for her in the future. "
— Keri, 11/17/2012" Probably the first Lisa Unger book I read I was hooked from this point forward "
— Bev, 11/1/2012" A wonderfully dark and layered character leads this story about the hunt for a mysterious serial killer in the Santa Fe area. I had not read Unger before & will now seek out all her books. "
