Alfie was originally a radio show, then a stage play, and finally a book by the talented writer Bill Naughton before the character was immortalised by Michael Caine and then Jude Law on the screen. With an overwhelming desire for the opposite sex, Alfie cannot resist as many as three birds on one night. But underneath the surface fun and humour, consequences unfurl, and Naughton paints Alfie as ultimately a sad figure, unable to find peace of mind, and if you haven't got that, you've got nothing.

"Brilliant! I've never seen the unreliable narrator handled with such deftness by an author before. The first-person view is never ever shaken, and yet the reader is the one who discovers "what's it all about." " — Hilary (4 out of 5 stars)

" Very good character. The kind you love to hate, and eventually feel sorry for. "
" I liked it. I don't really know if Alfie is appealing, or if it is my image of Jude Law portraying him that's making him seem that way. Either way, I now have to watch the movie. I liked it enough to watch both film versions. "
" Well...that's put me off men. "
" Listened to the audio version. This was entertaining, especially since it was so short. A quick look into the mail psyche. "
" So relevant. "
" There are two things I've learned in life: find someone to love and live everyday as if it were your last. "
" Alfie (the character) is unredeemable. I thought he was going to come around in the end, but not Alfie. I did enjoy this book, even though I had to decypher what some of the English slang meant. I'd read it again. "
" I'm not sure how I feel about this book... I didn't like it! LOL! What was the point to this book??? I think I may have read it too fast... "
