In a time when the Industrial Revolution has escalated into all-out warfare, Mad Science rules the world… with mixed success. With the help of Krosp, Emperor of All Cats, Agatha has escaped from the massive airship known as Castle Wulfenbach. After crashing their escape dirigible, Agatha and Krosp fall in with Master Payne’s Circus of Adventure, a traveling troupe of performers dedicated to staging Heterodyne shows — dramatizations of the exploits of Bill and Barry Heterodyne and their allies — who are unaware of Agatha’s connection to the Heterodyne line. Pursued by the ruthless Baron Klaus Wulfenbach, his handsome son Gil, and their minions (not to mention Othar Tryggvassen, Gentleman Adventurer), Agatha hides in plain sight among the circus folk, servicing their clanks and proving herself adept in performing the role of Lucrezia Mongfish, nemesis to — and later wife of — Barry Heterodyne. She also begins training under Zeetha, swordmistress and princess of the lost city of Skifander . Together, Agatha, Krosp, and the performers travel across the treacherous Wasteland of war-torn Europa, towards Mechanicsburg, and the ancestral home of the Heterodynes — Castle Heterodyne. But with many perils standing in her way — including Wulfenbach’s crack troops, mysterious Geisterdamen, savage Jägermonsters, and the fabled Storm King — it’s going to take more than a spark of Mad Science for Agatha to get through… From Phil and Kaja Foglio, creators of the multiple WCCA and Hugo Award-winning webcomic Girl Genius, comes Agatha H and the Clockwork Princess, a gaslamp fantasy filled to bursting with Adventure! Romance! And Mad Science!

"As I read this back to back with the first one, here is my continuing impression: The story as novel is just as gripping as I found the original Comic to be (which is to say, nearly impossible to put down). In a total shedding of all webcomics due to the simple time constraints of parental life, Girl Genius is the only one that I have found worth clinging to. The only thing I might say was that there were a few typos/grammatical errors (at least in the ebook version) that made me think there might have been space for another editorial read through. But all in all, well worth it!"

" I wish the next one was out already! I absolutely love these books, can't get enough of them! "
— Brandi, 2/13/2014" Charming fun, not great literature, a nigh-perfect light summer read on a day that's too hot for heavy thinking anyway. "
— Tracyfood, 1/22/2014" Am quite enjoying the girl genius series. writers are working up a nice momentum and it's an old fashioned serial type adventure. agatha is getting more personality which is good "
— Fern, 1/4/2014" The Foglios have better mastered the transition from a comic to novel in this volume, while still closely following the thread of the comic volumes. Perhaps they get a little carried away with the footnotes, but a palatable steampunk romance overall. "
— Stephen, 12/19/2013" Love the novels of this series, good fun - great heroine. Good read for the early pre-teen YA reader in the steampunk genre. (There is also a graphic novel series - Girl Genius, but I haven't read those). "
— Jdshipengrover, 12/5/2013" This book is totally awesome and I loved it. Steampunk and sciencey magic and a little romance and a circus and some silliness a la Terry Pratchett. Good stuff! Now if only I had read the first book before this one... "
— Lauren, 11/22/2013" Ok, this didn't even come close to meeting my expectation ! The "Air ship" was so well done, but this was just stupid! Actually, I take that back. Most of the story was well done, but the who Agatha/her evil mother was just plain confusing "
— Amy, 11/20/2013" Brilliantly written and filled with humor and awesome steam-punk gadgets, this installment was entertainment personified! "
— Diane, 11/17/2013" Aaaargh! If you're going to have the stones to describe yourself on the cover as "Hugo-award-winning authors" then at least ONE of you ought to know the difference between discreet and discrete and roll and role! "
— Jammies, 10/6/2013" Much better, more satisfying read than the first one. I hadn't read the web comics, so this one, with more backstory and explanatory bits, hung together better. "
— Eingang, 3/11/2013" Second in a (hopefully) continuing series of novelizations of the Foglio graphic novels. Longer, more complex, and less fun than the first, but still amusing and good enough to make me look forward to further installments. "
— Daniel, 11/26/2012" A better tale than Agatha H and the Airship City with more excitement and less back story. The tale just flowed better and kept my interest. Looking forward to the next installment. "
— Ron, 11/10/2012" This has so many clever turns of phrase in it that I almost never stopped laughing, and even then I was smiling. If you enjoy the comic, then you will certainly enjoy this novel which adds a new depth to the already nearly fathomless world of "Agatha Heterodyne: Girl Genius!" "
— Zach, 9/14/2012" I have read this book and also the graphic novels . Love them both. "
— Philda, 9/9/2012" I am a big fan of the graphic novel version of Agatha's adventures but still think these novels add another useful level. In each novel I have found a little factoid that I missed or wasn't highlighted in the comic. YEah, Phil and Kaja. Keep up the amazing work. "
— Dianah, 9/8/2012" Phil Folgio is still managing to transcend the web comic to book format i would reccomend this book to anyone young or old "
