2013 HOLT Medallion Award Winner
With the vampire world on the brink of civil war over the scarcity of untainted human blood, battle lines are being drawn between the once peaceful vampire and human enclave of Penton, Alabama, and the powerful Vampire Tribunal. Mirren Kincaid once served the tribunal as their most creative and ruthless executioner—a time when he was known as the Slayer. But when assigned a killing he found questionable, Mirren abandoned the tribunal’s political machinations and disappeared—only to resurface two centuries later as the protector and second-in-command of Penton. Now the tribunal wants him back on their side. To break their rogue agent, they capture Glory Cummings, the descendant of a shaman, and send her to restore Mirren’s bloodthirsty nature. But instead of a monster, Glory sees a man burdened by the weight of his past. Could her magic touch—meant by the tribunal to bring out a violent killer—actually help Mirren break his bonds and discover the love he doesn’t believe he deserves?

"I jumped right into this book after finishing the first in the series, Redemption, and I was not disappointed with this one, either! Sandlin does an awesome job developing her characters and does not go overboard with local dialect or cliches as can be the case when writing about strong regional traits. I am looking forward (impatiently) to the next installment in this great new series, Omega."

" Loved it! It was fantastic. I can hardly wait for book 3. Highly recommend this series to lovers of paranormal romance. "
— Anne, 2/12/2014" This was a somewhat surprising series. It was prices reasonable for kindle/audible and I it is free to borrow for amazon prime. I enjoyed seeing Mirren being viscous and yet intrigued, soothed and protective over Glory. Ready for Matthias to go DOWN! "
— Vic, 2/10/2014" This book was fabulous! I am really enjoying the Penton Legacies. I think the world Sandlin has created is truly unique and fascinating. I loved Mirren and Glory, although I would not have complained had their love story been more drawn out. I didn't want the book to end. I can't wait for Omega. "
— Susie, 1/20/2014" Loved, loved, loved it! I wish I had ordered the next one in the series so I could pick it up and read it (yes, I have the paperbacks). Not that this one left me hanging, only that I want to read more. I love this series! "
— Stacy, 10/24/2013" I felt this was a better written book than the first one. "
— Karen, 9/8/2013" I love this series, really love Mirren!! Highly recommend this series!!!!! "
— Debra, 8/15/2013" I wish there were more stars to give it. Susannah Sandlin's Penton Legacy series is one if my favorites. Anyone who tries it won't regret it. "
— Naima, 7/25/2013" A pretty decent continuation of the series. Good characterisation. Much better than book 1 perhaps. I also like how quickly situations evolve and that we actually got a proper ending to this book - unlike the abbreviated lump that was the final chapter of book 1. "
— Sasha, 5/30/2013" I loved it can"t wait for Book 3. I would love to hear the story about Will. "
— Joan, 5/10/2013" Pretty good as a series goes. I look forward to the third one. I really hope Matthias gets what's coming to him. Great bad guy though. It's very easy to hate him. "
— Emily, 4/19/2013" I am in love with this series. Susannah Sandlin is such a fabulous author - very easy to read and captivating. I was hooked two pages into the prologue and couldn't put the book down. I am going to have a difficult time waiting for Omega to come out next year! "
