With every trip around the sun, life is filled with more stress and less fun. Taxes, work, relationships, student loans, the ridiculous monotony of everyday life — being an adult is nowhere near as exhilarating as imagined when we were younger. As a result, the older we get, the less we play. Our bodies and our souls pay for it.
Challenged and encouraged by my daughters, I played catch every single day. My family took two massive catch-playing road trips, meeting new people and seeing new sights. Play is a vital part of what it means to be human. In a weary world full of worrisome news, creating space for play is a sacred endeavor.
The book combines stories of the people I've met and the places I've traveled with lessons I've learned through the daily games of catch. From Sioux Falls, South Dakota to the home of the Daytona Tortugas in Florida, putting in the hours of work to connect with catch partners and bring their stories to light has been the best un-paid full-time position I've ever had. The reason I'm the ideal candidate to write this book is I'm the person who lived it.
