William E Simon - quintessential American figure of the American century: Wall Street wunderkind, Treasury Secretary under Presidents Nixon and Ford, successful entrepreneur, US Olympic Committee president, best-selling author, pioneering philanthropist, and devout Catholic.

Simon's insightful and often humorous autobiography, A Time for Reflection, includes a diverse cast of characters whose lives intersected with his own - from the President and his advisers at the White House to the highest realms of the Catholic Church (in particular, Cardinal Egan), to celebrities, like actress Meryl Streep and sports figures, like basketball coach Bobby Knight. In A Time for Reflection, Simon offers us some behind-the-scenes glimpses of history being made, including: President Nixon as Simon knew him, both in office and after; how Simon confronted Ronald Reagan during the Republican convention in 1980 to help nix the idea of a co-presidency with Gerald Ford; the tumult of the 1980 Moscow Olympic games, boycotted by the United States, and the 1984 Los Angeles games, boycotted by the Soviet Union; how Simon battled the Arab 'oil crisis' as 'energy czar' for President Nixon; Simon's fight in the Ford administration against Vice President Nelson Rockefeller on how to help a bankrupt New York City; making the case for freedom with his best-selling books A Time for Truth and A Time for Action.

Simon's fascinating life also encompassed sailing adventures - including conquering the Northwest Passage from Alaska to Greenland and being named king by a group of Fiji islanders - as well as adventures of the soul: giving away millions to charity; becoming a Eucharistic minister; and helping to care for the sick, the poor, and the dying. William E. Simon passed away on June 2000, but his autobiography, written in conjunction with and completed by John M Caher, is now published for the first time. It is a testimony to one of the truly impres...

"Carol Burnett is a lovely woman. After reading her first book, I was excited to find out she had written another. This one filled in a few of the blanks from what occurred after the last one, and it sheds some more light into the funny things that happened on the set of the Carol Burnett Show. It is written in short chapters, each one its own short story, many with great laughs toward the end. Many of them come from question and answer sessions she had touring following her hit television show. Burnett has a way of finding humor in everyday life, and that talent is on display here. Although the format might seem shallow, as a whole, this book gives insight into Burnett's personality and it is no wonder she is still well-loved after her heyday. It is a quick and delightful read."

" Another book I listened to on audiobook through Audible.com. Absolutely Hilarious! Reading the book is probably pretty funny too, but there is no beating Carol Burnett reading it to you. "

" I enjoyed reading this so much that I then got online at my library and ordered a dvd film of some of her greatest work. I'm not old enough to have experienced all of the shows she did, but I do remember some of them, and reading her story gave me delight as I remembered several others. I can't wait to pick up the dvd and get a hearty laugh! "

" Loved this! Carol's story is filled with great show biz vignettes - how she meets and works with legends, gets her CBS show on the air in an era of male hosted programs, and snippets of her turbulent upbringing. An easy, enjoyable read. "

" I've always loved Carol Burnett and was surprised at how much I already knew about this gifted woman before even listening to the book. I highly recommend getting the book on tape as Carol herself narrates it as only she could do justice to. I did find a few surprises embedded in her story. I did not know that she lost a daughter at a young age to lung cancer. I did not know that she was such a giver to others (but I'm not surprised). She speaks a tiny bit of mysticism and making connections with people we don't even know. I am of the same philosophy. It is a good read. "

" I loved this book, even though I am not very familiar with Burnett's television show. She is so funny, and I read many parts to Jon, who laughed out loud. Great book. "

" I have to remember that rating a book with 3 stars means that I liked it! I did like this Carol Burnett book -- for someone who watched her shows on TV, it was fun to hear about the different actors (like Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Harvey Korman) and other characters she worked with. Also to hear about her life, of which I knew nothing. I try to find audio books with 6 discs or less for the car (which I'm not in that many hours) and save the other books for my iPhone listening. This was a good selection for a short book. "
