Publisher Description

In her first collection of poetry, Jewel deals with such uniquely human themes as first love, the fading of passion, the giving of trust, the lessons of betrayal, and the healing of intimacy. The Alaska native writes with frankness and honesty. She is serious and suddenly playful, but always compelling.

"Poetry that is readable and honest. Some are beautiful, some are story-like, some are political. I enjoyed this collection, and will revisit the poems again in the future. Jewel is an exceptional artist. "

" There are some gems of expression and emotion in this volume, and a few truly deep and remarkable finds. However, for the most part it's an awful lot about love and sex which becomes rather redundant at times in theme as well as in the ideas/thoughts behind these themes. The best ones are about family, loneliness, Alaska, and most of all nature in relation to the divine. In other words, she's no Neruda, but does have a voice worth listening to now and then. "

" I read this at age 18 and back then it seemed a lot deeper. Going back to it now, I can see that I just didn't have much basis for comparison. I'm still glad I read it, because it did introduce me to written poetry--strangely, I purchased an e.e. cummings book of poetry right after I read this the first time. We all need a "gateway drug" into poetry, I guess. This was mine. "
