Publisher Description

Rosalinda Fitzroy has been asleep for sixty-two years when she is woken by a kiss.

Locked away in the chemically induced slumber of a stasis tube in a forgotten subbasement, sixteen-year-old Rose slept straight through the Dark Times that killed millions and utterly changed the world she knew. Now her parents and her first love are long dead, and Rose—hailed upon her awakening as the long-lost heir to an interplanetary empire—is thrust alone into a future in which she is viewed as either a freak or a threat.

Desperate to put the past behind her and adapt to her new world, Rose finds herself drawn to the boy who kissed her awake, hoping that he can help her to start fresh. But when a deadly danger jeopardizes her fragile new existence, Rose must face the ghosts of her past with open eyes—or be left without any future at all.

"This book was so creepy and tragic at the same time. I loved the characters, the society, her creepy, abusive family. I loved the idea of stass. It seemed like such a real concept. The end seemed a little rushed, and I did want more of her relationships. I wasn't clear on her and Otto or her and Bren, but I kind of liked that it kept the ends loose. When in life do you figure out your emotions so compactly?"

" I really enjoyed this one! I love retold fairy tales but frequently you can see what's coming. This one surprised me in several places, and I loved the slightly sci-fi and sinister twists. Sleeping Beauty has a traditional "happy ending," but this doesn't, and I like it the more for it. I might rec it for next year's yuletide, as I'd really like more about Otto and Bren and Rose. "

" For a young adult novel, I felt the language my challenge your typical teen. I also thought it would have been helpful to include a dictionary that would define some of the language Sheehan was using for this futuristic society. I definitely did not like the ending and it seemed a bit twisted to me. "
